A Day in the Life

  • Analyzes, researches, designs and develops catheters and delivery systems.
  • Works closely with R&D teams to develop and optimize materials and processes for catheter and delivery system manufacturing.
  • Develops processes that facilitate ease of manufacturing while producing quality, cost effective products with optimized yields
  • Uses DOE, DRM and lean methodology to create robust and stable processes.
  • Determines specific requirements of manufacturing operation in order to specify equipment, fixturing, and process parameters.
  • Collaborate on design with suppliers and internal stakeholders to fulfill equipment and fixturing requirements as well as develop fixturing and associated processes.
  • Develops and validates test methods associated with proposed processes.
  • Establishes material specifications for raw materials and subassemblies.
  • Drafts protocols/reports and analyzes data to complete process validation (PC/IQ/OQ/PQ) (including statistically relevant sample size determination)
  • Establishes BOM/Routing and drafts work instructions.
  • Support risk analysis for proposed processes (DFMECA, PFMECA).
  • Establishes control plans for processes, including statistical process control.
  • Supports transfer of processes to production.
  • Support the exploration and development of new process technologies that can ultimately be incorporated into new product development projects or existing manufacturing lines.
  • May provide guidance, coaching and training to other employees within job area
  • May manage projects, requiring delegation of work and review of others' work 

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
  • Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications.
  • Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
  • May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
  • Experience with designing or manufacturing disposable medical devices
  • Experience with polymer processing
  • Experience with process qualification / validation
  • Experience working in a medical device company quality system
  • Experience with statistical analysis (sample size determination, DOE, Tolerance Intervals, SPC)
  • Experience with problem solving methodology and tools (DMAIC)
  • Practical knowledge of project management
