Senior Software Engineer

We are Kaleris, a globally positioned software company with the aim of connecting and supporting worldwide supply chains through our software. At multiple locations in the USA, India, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Germany, we develop state-of-the-art cloud-based application software in the field of Terminal Operating Systems, Yard Management, Shipment Tracking, Asset Management, Sea Transport, and Ship Operations. 

Located in Flensburg, in the northern part of Germany, we have been responsible for the product areas of loading computers and stowage planning systems, which play a crucial role in global maritime transport. We count the largest liner shipping companies and ship managers among our customers. Additionally, in recent years, we have expanded our product range to help our customers reduce the emissions of their vessels and comply with legal requirements.

Located directly in the heart of Flensburg, we work with around 70 people in a renovated factory building. Of course, you can also work flexibly from home three days a week or whenever necessary. In certain cases, full remote work is also possible. 

Do you want to extend your stay at your holiday destination? Do you have relatives or friends abroad and would like to work from there for a while? No problem! With us, you can plan a workcation twice a year for a maximum of four weeks. You just need to bring your laptop and ensure internet connectivity. 

In Flensburg, you can easily commute to work by bicycle. This keeps you fit and helps the environment. Don't have a bike? We'll help you with a JobBike. Do you live too far away? We have enough parking spaces for drivers. Plus, we provide coffee, mineral water, and fruit free of charge. 

We live an open and honest corporate culture. The use of "Du" (informal "you" in German) is standard for us. If you wish, you can join in the communal lunch. Sometimes, we also organize joint cooking events. Company parties, BBQs, and our famous kale tour should not go unmentioned. 

What to expect in your role as a Senior Software Engineer? 

You are part of the product teams for loading computers and stowage planning solutions, actively involved in the enhancement and maintenance of our software. Your focus is on implementing efficient algorithms for calculating container lashings on sea vessels, taking into account ship class regulations. A penchant for mathematical, technical, and physical topics is an advantage, as this constitutes a significant part of your work. Furthermore, user interfaces also need to be designed and implemented. 

In an agile development process, you collaborate with product managers, testers, designers, and other developers to gather requirements, carry out development, and support quality assurance. Customers and ship classes are important contacts for coordinating calculation regulations and resolving issues. Additionally, you serve as a contact person for our internal shipbuilding department to support implementation projects and acceptance tests. 

What do you ideally bring with you? 

Due to the nature of the position, two different sets of requirements are applicable. If you come from a software background, you should meet the following requirements: 

• Bachelor, Master, or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar qualifications.
• Several years of experience in development with C# and .NET.
• Knowledge of software architecture and design patterns.
• Experience in programming numerical algorithms.
• Writing unit tests.
• Use of Visual Studio, Git, and Jira.
• Experience with WinForms or WPF is advantageous.
• English proficiency in both written and spoken forms. 

Do you have a background in shipbuilding, mechanical engineering, or similar? Then the following requirements may suit you better: 

• Bachelor, Master, or Diploma in Shipbuilding, Mechanical Engineering, or similar qualifications. 
• Profound knowledge in technical mechanics and calculation of nonlinear structures. 
• Experience in programming (e.g., C, C++, C#, or similar) of numerical algorithms. 
• Knowledge of regulations and calculations regarding container lashing systems is advantageous. 
• English proficiency in both written and spoken forms.

Zudem haben wir in den letzten Jahren die Produktpalette erweitert, um unseren Kunden zu helfen die Abgasemissionen ihrer Schiffe zu reduzieren und gesetzliche Anforderungen einzuhalten.

Was erwartet Dich bei uns? 

Wir sind eine bunte Truppe aus Menschen unterschiedlichen Alters, Geschlecht, Herkunft und Glauben. Selbstverständlich machen wir da keine Unterschiede. Zudem arbeiten wir täglich mit Kolleg*Innen und Kund*Innen aus aller Welt zusammen. Gutes Englisch ist daher wichtig. 

Direkt im Herzen Flensburgs gelegen, arbeiten wir mit ca. 70 Personen in einem umgebauten und denkmalgeschützten Fabrikgebäude. Selbstverständlich kannst Du auch flexibel von zu Hause arbeiten an drei Tagen pro Woche oder wann immer es nötig sein sollte. In bestimmten Fällen ist auch Full-Remote möglich. 

Du willst Deinen Aufenthalt an Deinem Urlaubsort verlängern? Hast Du Angehörige oder Freunde im Ausland und würdest gerne eine Zeit lang von dort arbeiten? Kein Problem! Bei uns kannst Du zweimal pro Jahr für maximal vier Wochen eine Workaction einplanen. Du musst nur das Notebook mitnehmen und für Internet sorgen. 

In Flensburg kann man ohne Probleme mit dem Fahrrad zur Arbeit kommen. Das hält fit und schont die Umwelt. Du hast kein Fahrrad? Wir helfen Dir mit einem JobRad. Du wohnst doch zu weit weg? Wir haben genug Parkplätze für die Autofahrer. Außerdem gibt es Kaffee, Mineralwasser und Obst frei Haus.

Was erwartet Dich in Deiner Rolle als Senior Software Engineer? 

Du bist Teil der Produktteams für Ladungsrechner und Stauplanungslösungen und nimmst aktiv an der Weiterentwicklung und Wartung unserer Software teil. Dein Fokus liegt auf der Implementierung von effizienten Algorithmen zur Berechnung von Container-Lashings auf Seeschiffen unter Berücksichtigung von Schiffsklassenvorschriften. Ein Hang zu mathematisch, technisch-physikalischen Zusammenhängen ist ein Vorteil, da dies einen großer Teil Deiner Arbeit ausmacht. Weiterhin müssen auch User-Interfaces entworfen und implementiert werden. 

In einem agilen Entwicklungsprozess arbeitest Du mit Produktmanagern, Testen, Designern und anderen Entwicklern zusammen, um Anforderungen aufzunehmen, die Entwicklung durchzuführen und die Qualitätssicherung zu unterstützen. Kunden und Schiffsklassen sind wichtige Ansprechpartner, um Berechnungsvorschriften abzustimmen und Probleme zu beseitigen. Weiterhin bist Du Kontaktperson für unsere interne Schiffbauabteilung, um Implementierungsprojekt und Abnahmen zu unterstützen. 

Was bringst Du idealerweise mit? 

Aufgrund der Natur der Stelle, kommen zwei verschiedene Anforderungsprofile in Frage. Wenn Du aus dem Softwareumfeld kommst, solltest Du folgende Anforderungen erfüllen. 

• Bachelor, Master oder Diplom in Informatik, Software-Engineering oder ähnlichen Qualifikationen. 
• Mehrere Jahre Erfahrung in der Entwicklung mit C# und .net. 
• Kenntnisse über Softwarearchitektur und Design Patterns. 
• Erfahrung in der Programmierung von numerischen Algorithmen. 
• Schreiben von Unit Tests. 
• Einsatz von Visual Studio, Git und Jira. 
• Umgang mit WinForms oder WPF sind von Vorteil.
• Englisch in Wort und Schrift 

Hast Du einen Hintergrund im Schiffbau, Maschinenbau oder ähnlichem? Dann passen die folgenden Anforderungen vielleicht besser zu Dir. 

• Bachelor, Master oder Diplom in Schiffbau, Maschinenbau oder ähnlichen Qualifikationen. 
• Fundierte Kenntnisse in technischer Mechanik und Berechnung nichtlinearer Strukturen. 
• Erfahrung in der Programmierung (z.b. C, C++, C# oder ähnliches) von numerischen Algorithmen. 
• Kenntnisse von Vorschriften und Berechnung zu Container-Lashing-Systems sind von Vorteil.
