Software Engineer II

Our Product Development team is actively looking for a talented Backend Software Engineer to assist with the development of our Advanced Contact Distribution system (ACD). In this role, you will be building Five9’s next generation contact center platform using microservice architecture. The primary focus will be on developing advanced feature sets using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and container technology. An ideal candidate would be an engineer who is passionate about building scalable distributed fault tolerant systems, a brilliant problem solver, and a great team player.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the next generation of Five9’s modern SaaS platform, bringing omni-channel attribute-base routing and cloud elasticity to our Automatic Call Distribution platform.
• Deliver well-tested, high-quality code, applying best practices that ensure efficiency, maintainability, and extensibility. 
• Build a multi-tenant SaaS platform, utilizing Java, REST Services, multi-region GCP, Kubernetes, PubSub, Redis, Datastore, and other cloud native technologies. 
• Dive into existing systems to gain a deeper understanding of the product and domain, occasionally making changes to support modernization
• Take part in agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
• Collaborate in person and asynchronously with a globally-distributed team of developers, product managers, testers, and application architects to ensure we are solving the right problem
• Understand performance and scalability principles and apply when developing software
• Document and clearly communicate design and implementation of solutions
• Bring a positive attitude to the team, drive our standards, show ownership and an obsession for our customers
• Ensure high quality product using unit, functional, integration and journey tests.
• Meet performance requirements using load tests.
• Ensure resiliency and fault tolerance using testing, fault injection and longevity testing. 
• Be on-call for production support up to one week a month.

 Required Skills:

• B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent work experience, M.S. degree preferred
• 3+ years of Hands-on experience with Java based microservices and delivering RESTful APIs
• Hands-on experience with Springboot framework
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Preferred Skills (not mandatory):

• Experience with GIT
• Experience with a cloud storage and a NoSQL platform (e.g. key-value stores)
• Experience with Automated testing and CI\CD
• Passion for user experience and strong design experience

This role is fully remote for candidates who reside at least 50 miles away from our San Francisco or San Ramon office locations. For candidates who reside within 50 miles of our San Francisco or San Ramon locations, this role will be Hybrid.
