Role summary:As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving innovation in cloud-native architectures and AI/ML integration. This role requires strategic technical leadership across multiple teams, ensuring alignment with long-term roadmaps and business objectives. You will oversee the full software development lifecycle, mentor engineering teams, and foster engineering excellence. Collaborating with cross-functional partners, you will translate complex business needs into actionable technical solutions while promoting continuous improvement and operational excellence to support Walmart’s evolving technology landscape. **Immigration Sponsorship support will NOT be available for this

The OneSource team architects and delivers scalable, enterprise-grade solutions that transform sourcing and product development at Walmart. Utilizing technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, React, and advanced agentic systems, the team integrates deeply with Walmart’s core platforms to provide a unified, intelligent automation experience. Focused on reducing manual effort and errors, the team drives global scalability and innovation through cloud-native architecture and AI-enhanced applications. Members collaborate across functions to build reliable, high-quality software that supports Walmart’s strategic goals and advances the future of retail technology.
What you'll do:
- Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver scalable, cloud-native infrastructure and reusable tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps.
- Drive full software development lifecycle activities, including design, testing, deployment, and maintenance of distributed systems optimized for AI/ML integration.
- Architect intelligent software solutions leveraging model-driven design and advanced programming languages to enhance system performance and reliability.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, influencing architectural standards and fostering engineering excellence across teams.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements and measurable success metrics.
- Promote continuous improvement through innovation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of best practices in software engineering.
- Design agentic workflows that call internal MCP tools and Java/Spring Boot microservices safely, including authentication, and guardrails for autonomous or semi-autonomous actions.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable infrastructure and reusable tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps.
- Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture and distributed system design ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.
- Strong technical execution skills across the full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and incident response.
- Proficiency in AI/ML integration and building intelligent software systems using languages such as Python, Java, and C++.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical mentorship and influence architectural decisions across multiple teams.
- Excellent collaboration skills with cross-functional stakeholders to define requirements and measure success.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and maintaining high-quality technical standards.
- Hands-on experience designing, extending, or operating MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers, to expose functional capabilities as tools for agentic and LLM-based systems.
- Experience building or integrating with super-agent systems, including agent orchestration, tool-calling, and prompt/skill design for use cases.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
