System Field Support Automation Engineer

Job Description

Position Summary
The System Field Support Automation Engineer provides technical expertise in automation, robotics, electrical systems, and field commissioning for non-destructive testing (NDT) inspection systems in China. The role supports new system installations, upgrades and refurbishment projects, after-sales service, and customer acceptance activities. It also operates the local laboratory robotic platform and supports technical demonstrations for customers and prospective markets.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform start-up and commissioning of locally produced platforms for inspection systems at local manufacturing partner facilities.
• Install, configure, test, and commission electrical and automation systems at customer sites for new installations, upgrades, and refurbishment projects.
• Provide field-based after-sales technical support and troubleshooting for NDT inspection systems.
• Modify, develop, and troubleshoot PLC programs during system start-up and on-site commissioning.
• Create or modify PLC function blocks using Siemens Step7/TIA Portal and programming languages such as LAD, SCL, and SFC.
• Develop, modify, and upgrade HMI applications and screens using Siemens WinCC based on project and customer requirements.
• Configure and commission motor drives and motion-control systems, including Siemens drive solutions.
• Support the electrical and automation scope of in-service system upgrades and refurbishment projects.
• Localize and update electrical documentation, including wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications.
• Provide automation-control solution designs for small NDT inspection systems based on inspection-motion requirements.
• Operate and maintain the local laboratory robotic platform and support technical demonstrations on customer samples.
• Validate locally manufactured system components and technical deliverables supplied by external partners.
• Prepare clear technical reports documenting customer needs, service activities, commissioning results, and market feedback.
• Support spare-parts inventory transactions, inbound and outbound coordination, and related documentation as required.
• Coordinate effectively with Sales, Service, Operations, engineering teams, customers, and local external partners.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
• Four to six years of experience in automation, field commissioning, system integration, or a related environment.
• Strong experience with PLC programming, application development, and on-site troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with motion control, motor-drive configuration, and commissioning.
• Strong knowledge of industrial automation and robotics.
Technical Skills
• Proficiency with Siemens Step7 and TIA Portal.
• Working knowledge of LAD, SCL, and SFC programming languages.
• Experience with Siemens WinCC HMI software.
• Experience configuring and commissioning Siemens motor drives; experience with Siemens S120 is an asset.
• Experience with Mitsubishi or Allen-Bradley PLC platforms is an asset.
• Experience with Universal Robots (UR) or comparable industrial robotic platforms is an asset.
• Ability to read, interpret, modify, and localize electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, layouts, and engineering specifications.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills for complex electrical, automation, and system issues.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and detailed reports.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong sense of ownership, adaptability, and attention to detail.
• Ability to meet project, commissioning, and customer deadlines.
Language and Travel Requirements
• Fluency in written and spoken Chinese and English.
• Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time, including travel to customer and partner sites.
