Senior Harness Engineer - Robot Wiring; Interconnect

Who you are?

• An electrical interconnect expert who thinks in bend radii, dynamic flex-life, strain relief, and signal integrity.
• Hands-on: you build, route, terminate, and test your own harnesses in the lab.
• Meticulous about documentation: every wire, connector, pinout, and schematic is traced, version-controlled, and managed in PLM/PDM.
• A strong collaborator across mechanical, electrical, thermal, and embedded firmware teams.

Responsibilities:

• Design the full robot wiring harness architecture: power distribution (high-current motor phases, bus voltage), communication networks (EtherCAT/CAN), and sensor signal lines.
• Route harnesses through high-DOF moving joints, limbs, and torso with optimized bend radii, strain relief, and dynamic flex-life performance.
• Perform thermal derating analysis and ampacity safety assessments for high-current motor phase and power distribution lines.
• Select and specify connectors, terminals, wire gauges, shields, and protective sleeving for high-flex, high-vibration robotic environments.
• Design harness breakouts, junction modules, and quick-disconnect connectors for assembly and field serviceability.
• Develop dynamic flex-life test rigs for harness-joint mockups to evaluate endurance and model failure modes.
• Generate complete documentation: schematics, wire lists, pinouts, BOMs, and 3D harness routing models.
• Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to define cable channels, pass-through glands, and mounting features in the structure.
• Define EMC/EMI mitigation strategies: shielding, grounding topology, and separation of power and high-speed signal lines.

Requirements:

• B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field (exceptional practical experience in robotic harness design may be considered).
• 5+ years of wiring harness and interconnect design experience in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or industrial automation.
• Proficiency in 3D/2D harness routing tools (SolidWorks Electrical 3D, NX Routing, Creo Harness, Zuken E3.series, or Mentor Capital).
• Deep expertise in high-flex cables, dynamic shielding, and connector reliability under vibration.
• Hands-on prototyping capabilities: crimping, soldering, potting, termination, and continuity testing.
• Strong understanding of EMC/EMI principles, high-speed signal integrity (EtherCAT/CAN), and thermal management.

Advantages:

• Experience designing harnesses for humanoid robots, quadrupeds, or multi-DOF articulated manipulators.
• Familiarity with automotive harness qualification standards (LV 214, USCAR) and flex-testing methodology.
• Practical experience designing and building automated or semi-automated harness test rigs.
• Comfortable communicating technical topics in English with international teams.
