WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

The Engineering team is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer with extensive knowledge on .NET Core (C#), experienced with product feature development and architecture who can be effective on all levels of our engineering stack, and is willing to play all necessary roles such as architect, tech lead, code reviewer, Agile coach, and mentor.

In short, we want to bring experienced Engineers in to make key decisions regarding technology, architecture, and software. You’re a great fit for our team if you can balance detail-oriented tasks with long term strategy and scale initiatives. Most of all, you must be passionate about what you create and about the impact it can have. That matters to us, a lot.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take ownership of feature delivery, software quality and team coordination for our platform engineering team
  • Create and maintain optimal software supporting Product initiatives and features
  • Establish and enforce best practices in code to build sophisticated software that adheres to common programming principles
  • Work closely with stakeholders including the Product and Operations teams to define a team roadmap and design requirements
  • Review requirements and translate into an executable development plan, breaking down projects to enable iterative and agile implementation
  • Drive progress on projects and facilitate answering questions and removing blockers
  • Provide production support and mentor junior engineers
  • Proactively drive the vision for architecture and design across multiple product verticals

REQUIREMENTS

The Necessities

  • 8+ years of experience as a Software Engineer
  • Expert in .NET Core or higher, Microsoft SQL Server, Git, Docker and OS X
  • Experience leading teams and demonstrating ownership over product delivery and system design
  • Professional experience with cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile practices and managing team workload
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading remote contractors
  • Demonstrated experience with Software Architecture and Design
  • On-site twice a week at one of our office locations (New York, NY | Phoenix, AZ | Austin, TX)

OUR CULTURE

We take a modern Agile approach to web development, trusting cross-functional squads to make bottom up decisions in terms of roadmap prioritization, technical choices, and day-to-day processes. We want squads to be first class citizens, working as a team to define their roadmap and prioritization, that follows best practices in development, automation testing, deploying, and support.

The expected salary range for this position is $160K - $180K with a bonus variable. Please note that salary bands are based on NY and other similar metro areas and may differ based on where the role is ultimately hired.

It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 - 2 conversations about Vestwell, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but the usual next steps are a skill or experience screen (e.g. a coding interview for an Engineer, a portfolio review for a Designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in-person interview panel after that if the screens go well. Before making an offer, our interview process concludes with a references check stage for your recruiter to meet with a current or former supervisor and peer. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.
