The Lead Engineer Control Software is responsible for the technical ownership and delivery of control system functions for complex power system and FACTS projects. In addition to performing hands-on control system design and implementation, the Lead Engineer coordinates technical activities across the project, leads testing and commissioning activities, and acts as a technical mentor for other control software engineers.

The role requires strong technical expertise combined with the ability to lead technical work packages, coordinate multidisciplinary activities, communicate with customers and stakeholders, and ensure successful delivery of control software solutions from requirements through commissioning.

The position will be based in Noida, India with hybrid working flexibility. You will be working on cutting edge technology and varied international high-profile projects. In this position, you will be reporting to Engineering Manager – Control Software, Noida office and it can be considered a top priority position to perform in a critical engineering discipline for overall FACTS business.

Job Description:
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement STATCOM/SVC control algorithms and control functions using MATLAB/Simulink.
- Perform MATLAB/Simulink implementation, simulation, verification, and validation of control functions.
- Develop and execute PSCAD simulations, particularly for dynamic performance studies and validation of STATCOM/SVC control performance.
- Perform controller performance evaluation under various grid operating conditions, disturbances, faults, voltage variations, and reactive power requirements.
- Develop and maintain simulation models for STATCOM/SVC control and system performance assessment.
- Perform RTDS-based real-time testing of STATCOM/SVC controllers, including closed-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Prepare RTDS test cases, test procedures, signal lists, test reports, and analyze test results.
- Support STATCOM/SVC commissioning activities, including controller testing, tuning, functional verification, site troubleshooting, and performance validation.
- Lead software/control engineering activities for STATCOM/SVC projects from engineering through testing and commissioning.
- Coordinate with system studies, primary engineering, protection, SCADA, hardware, and project engineering teams.
- Provide technical leadership for software development, simulation, testing, troubleshooting, and resolution of project-specific control issues.
- Support customer discussions, technical reviews, FAT, site acceptance testing, commissioning, and performance tests.
- Review technical specifications and ensure control system design complies with project and grid-code requirements.
- Investigate and resolve control-system issues identified during simulation, RTDS testing, FAT, commissioning, or site operation.
- Mentor junior engineers and establish good engineering practices for simulation, software development, testing, and documentation.

Mandatory Technical Requirements:
1. MATLAB/Simulink
- Strong hands-on experience in MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience in implementing and simulating control algorithms and control functions.
- Ability to troubleshoot simulation results and optimize control performance.
2. PSCAD
- Strong practical experience with PSCAD/EMTDC.
- Experience in dynamic performance studies of STATCOM/SVC systems.
- Understanding of transient and dynamic behavior of power electronic converters connected to the grid.
- Experience in analyzing faults, voltage disturbances, reactive power response, control interactions, and system stability.
3. RTDS Testing
- Hands-on experience in RTDS real-time simulation and controller testing.
- Experience with closed-loop/HIL testing of STATCOM/SVC controllers.
- Knowledge of RTDS signal interfacing, test-case development, controller integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to analyze RTDS test results and identify controller/software issues.
4. STATCOM/SVC Commissioning
- Practical experience in STATCOM or SVC commissioning.
- Experience in controller functional testing, tuning, signal verification, fault testing, reactive power/voltage control verification, and site troubleshooting.
- Willingness to travel to project sites for commissioning and customer support.
5. Software/Control Engineering Leadership
- Proven experience in leading software/control engineering activities for STATCOM/SVC projects.
- Ability to plan and execute software development, simulation, testing, FAT, RTDS testing, and commissioning activities.
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
- Strong problem-solving and technical decision-making capability.

Qualifications / Requirements:

- Minimum 8-12 years of experience in FACTS/HVDC projects

- MSc/MTech or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Power Electronics, Control Engineering, or equivalent.

- Strong knowledge of power system dynamics, control theory, and power electronics.

- Strong understanding of control systems for grid-connected power electronic devices.

- Good knowledge of FACTS, STATCOM, SVC, HVDC, grid-connected converters, or related power-electronics-based systems.

- Significant experience with simulation and analysis tools such as PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, RTDS, PSS/E, or equivalent.

- Strong prioritization and time-management skills.

- Fluent written and spoken English.

- Willingness to travel internationally for testing, commissioning, customer meetings, and project activities.
