The Development Engineer is a key role within the Cubico Australia team that has the following key focus areas:
  • Lead engineering workstreams and management during project feasibility and development phases, by proving engineering support during development tasks including site prospecting, site layout development, constraints assessment, project environmental approvals, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Responsible for the procurement, execution, and management of packages of works directly engaged by Cubico during project feasibility and development phases, including for wind and solar resource equipment, geotechnical investigations, flood/hydrology studies, environmental assessments, site engineering assessment, preliminary engineering design and the like.
  • Working closely and collaboratively with the Cubico legal, development and technical teams, to provide technical contract preparation and management support to ensure the safe, timely and cost-effective delivery of contracts to execution within agreed risk frameworks.
  • As part of the later project development phase, assist in the preparation contract packages through to execution for renewable energy projects across a range of delivery models including Engineering, Procurement and Construction, and split/multi-contract with separate Supply and Install and balance of plant contracts.
  • Provide engineering support from time to time for execution (construction) stage projects.
The candidate should have a proven experience in the Australian renewable energy industry, a broad local industry network and a sound knowledge of project contracting practices in the local market. The role will require a high degree of flexibility, autonomy, and the ability to manage multiple different workstreams across multiple projects concurrently. The candidate will be required to manage small contracts from proposal to close-out, as well as work constructively and collaboratively with the broader Cubico team on our large projects (EPC or split/multi-contract).

The successful candidate will be based in Sydney or Melbourne, Australia, and at times will be required to travel to meet project requirements. The candidate must be a team player and adopt an open, constructive, and collaborative approach to the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that health and safety and environmental requirements are fully considered and adhered to in any task, to ensure that Cubico remains in compliance with legislation, industry best practice and Cubico expectations.
  • During the feasibility and development phase of our renewable energy projects, lead the engineering workstreams and provide engineering management for project development tasks including site prospecting, site layout development, constraints assessment, project environmental approvals, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Responsible for the procurement, execution and contract management of packages of works directly engaged by Cubico, including for wind and solar resource equipment, geotechnical investigations, flood/hydrology studies, environmental assessments, site engineering assessment and the like.
  • As part of the later project development phase, assist in the preparation of contract packages for renewable energy projects across a range of delivery models including Engineering, Procurement and Construction, and split/multi-contract with separate Supply and Install and balance of plant contracts.
  • Proving engineering input into strategy development of bid/tender strategies for renewable energy projects.
  • Support the technical contract development aspects of any negotiations with OEM and EPC contractors in order to achieve timely financial close.
  • Assist in project risk management strategies and risk documentation during contract development.
  • Provide technical contract development support and input into business decision gate documents and submissions.
  • Keep the teams updated as to key schedule, contract and cost risks associated with any of the above engineering activities.
  • Provide engineering support from time to time for execution (construction) stage projects.
  • Involvement in lessons learnt processes to ensure that feasibility and development projects can benefit from learnings gained on construction and operational projects.
  • Provide contract support to the business to initiatives aimed at reducing the levelized cost of energy for projects.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with suppliers and stakeholders.
