Sr Lead Engineer - O365

Location: Chennai, India

Department: Synchrony Program-990200

Job Purpose

The L4 SharePoint / Power Platform Engineer designs, administers, and governs enterprise Microsoft 365 collaboration and automation platforms. This role owns complex platform operations, governance, and project delivery across SharePoint Online and Power Platform, and serves as an escalation point and technical mentor for lower-tier engineers.

The engineer operates with minimal supervision, contributes to architecture decisions, supports business-critical solutions, and participates in on-call rotation for high-severity incidents.

Key Responsibilities

SharePoint Online

  • Administer and operate SharePoint Online tenant and site architecture, including communication sites, team sites, and hub sites.
  • Own site lifecycle management: provisioning standards, storage management, retention, archiving, and decommissioning.
  • Design and enforce permissions models using M365 Groups, SharePoint Groups, and Azure AD security groups; manage inheritance, external sharing, and access reviews.
  • Define and enforce governance standards: naming conventions, information architecture, metadata/taxonomy, content types, and data classification.
  • Plan and execute SharePoint migrations (on-prem to SPO, site consolidations), including discovery, remediation, pilot, cutover, and validation.
  • Act as escalation point for complex SharePoint issues (permissions, sharing, search, sync, pages/web parts, workflow failures).
  • Perform root-cause analysis, implement permanent fixes, and maintain runbooks and technical documentation.

Power Platform Administration & Delivery

  • Administer Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and Dataverse environments across Dev/Test/Prod.
  • Define and manage environment strategy, capacity monitoring, health checks, and platform reliability.
  • Implement Power Platform governance, including:
    • Environment routing and segmentation
    • Maker onboarding standards
    • Solution-based ALM practices
    • Naming, ownership, tagging, and auditing
  • Configure and maintain Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies and connector governance.
  • Administer Dataverse security models, including roles, teams, field security, and Azure AD group-based access.
  • Support solution deployments using managed solutions, environment variables, and connection references.
  • Partner with business and technical teams to design and deploy automation using Power Automate with proper error handling, logging, retries, and performance optimization.
  • Provide hands-on support for canvas and model-driven Power Apps, including data modeling, UX patterns, delegation, and performance tuning.

Security, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Enforce organizational security and compliance standards across SharePoint Online and Power Platform.
  • Ensure least-privilege access, approved connector usage, and auditable solution designs.
  • Support compliance requirements including retention, auditing, and eDiscovery readiness.
  • Monitor and respond to security risks such as oversharing, unauthorized access, and risky automation patterns.
  • Document findings, remediate gaps, and strengthen preventive guardrails.

Project Delivery & Operational Support

  • Participate in platform-related projects, including planning, design, testing, deployment, and post-go-live support.
  • Coordinate changes and feature rollouts with minimal business disruption.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for P1/P2 incidents supporting business-critical collaboration and automation services.
  • Mentor L2/L3 engineers and review designs, configurations, and operational practices.

Required Experience

  • 7–10 years experience supporting enterprise Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • SharePoint Online administration
    • Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse)
    • Azure Active Directory / Entra ID
    • PowerShell automation
  • Experience operating hybrid or large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience designing governance and operating models (not just following them).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Clear technical communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and enforcing platform standards.
  • Comfortable operating in project-based and operational (on-call) environments.
