About the team

We are part of the IT Services department and our main focus is on the tools used by our colleagues from Booking.com along with the colleagues from the other brands of Booking Holdings. Some examples of the products we develop and maintain are: Booking Benefit ,a system which allows our colleagues to have discounts on our platform; Unified Voice Portal, a tool which allows Voice Engineers and IT Support colleagues to provision users into the VoIP systems and to troubleshoot VoIP-related issues; Meeting Rooms Suite, a system which allows meeting rooms management across our offices, Ninja, a tool helping IT Support colleagues to provide the best services to all our colleagues. Here is the technology stack and some of the tools used by the team: Java, Spring Boot, MySQL, Kubernetes, TypeScript, React, Git, Gitlab (MRs, CI/CD), Harness.io (deployment), Grafana, Jira, and more…

The team currently consists of 12 Software Engineers, with healthy distribution between Senior and Core roles, a Product Manager and an Engineering Manager.


Key Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Design and implement end-to-end product features in collaboration with Developers and the Product Manager.
  • Evaluating customer needs and coming up with ideal solutions for it, assessing different languages (Java, Javascript, Python, etc), architecture and risks.
  • Rapidly developing next-generation scalable, flexible, and high-performance systems, with end-to-end ownership by monitoring and adjusting SLIs and SLOs.
  • Continuously learn and apply modern development methodologies and tools
  • Deploy and maintain software in production
  • Proactively propose improvement ideas to reduce technical debt and increase business impact of your team

Role Qualifications and Requirements:  

  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant role, preferably in a commercial environment
  • 3+ years of software development experience working with at least one server-side programming language (Java, Python, Scala, C++, etc), Javascript, HTML, CSS and one of the modern frameworks (React,Vue, Angular etc.) using modern tools and methodologies.
  • Expert understanding of core front end web technologies (Javascript, HTML, CSS)
  • Demonstrable experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Understanding of modern front end architecture principles and design practices: micro frontend architecture, SSR, SPA, responsive design, progressive enhancement, graceful degradation
  • Ability to write high-performance, reusable code
  • Writing unit and integration tests for the code
  • Experience with data-driven product development: analytics, A/B testing, etc
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
