Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) Design-Build Military Flight Test Instrumentation team located in Berkeley, MO is seeking Manufacturing Engineers to provision Flight Test Instrumentation hardware on multiple aircraft platforms.

On this team, a Manufacturing Engineer (Assembly & Installation) has the primary responsibility for the fabrication and installation of the mechanical and electrical hardware required to install a flight test data system. Design-Build Flight Test Manufacturing Engineers work the entire production cycle from review of engineering, manufacturing plan authorship, fabrication sourcing (inside and outside of Boeing) and detail planning, and continuing on through installation planning and shipside support.

Manufacturing Engineers are owners of the build plan and ensure compliance to design configuration, build plan, and process requirements.  Manufacturing Engineering performs Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) analysis and develops an integrated build plan consisting of work instructions for assembly/fabrication, kitting, tooling, inspection requirements, and other outputs to ensure fabrication meets design, test, and program requirements.

Support in this role extends across a wide variety of research and production platforms throughout Boeing, although the primary focus of this position is in support of testing needs of the local Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) products.  As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to work on the latest military aircraft and weapons programs such as T7, F-15, F-18, MQ-25, MQ-28, in addition to Phantom Works proprietary efforts.

The Design-Build Military Flight Test Instrumentation team is currently hiring for multiple positions and experience levels including Associate and Experienced Level Engineers.

The team is seeking candidates with aerospace, electrical or mechanical engineering backgrounds or in related fields.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Synthesis of test hardware & instrumentation requirements in support of flight test

  • Review of design models and drawings

    • Creating/reviewing redlines and coordinating with design to incorporate updates

  • Authorship of manufacturing plans to facilitate build

  • Sourcing of fabrication & assembly including work statement creation as needed

  • Fabrication coordination and liaison

  • Part sourcing from production

  • Procurement of parts/material to support test

    • Coordination with supplier management

  • Shipside (at the aircraft) support of test hardware installation

  • At times support manufacturing engineering tasks across different Boeing sites

  • Close coordination with:

    • Boeing flight test organization, instrumentation engineers and technicians

    • Boeing program engineers

    • Boeing customers

    • Boeing fabrication technicians and support personnel (material management)

    • Electrical and mechanical designers across design/build and the Enterprise.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 2+ years’ experience in engineering design or manufacturing engineering

  • Experience working with manufacturing planning tools

  • Experience with a design tool (CAD package) like CATIA, Siemens NX, etc

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering

  • 3+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering

  • Experience with redline creation, review, and coordination with design teams

  • Familiarity with flight test worksheets and/or having worksheet authority

  • Knowledge of electrical (wire shop) fabrication capabilities and processes

  • Proficiency in CATIA/ENOVIA/NX/Teamcenter

  • Knowledge of machine shop fabrication capabilities including conventional & CNC machining, EDM, fit/finish tools & processes, and QA inspection

  • Knowledge/familiarity with rapid prototyping processes & tools

  • Familiarity with stress analysis/structural analysis

Typical Education/Experience: 

Associate (Level 2)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Experienced (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range for Associate (level 2): $75,650 - $102,350

Summary pay range for Experienced (level 3): $90,100 - $121,900
