What you’ll do ​& Who you are

We are looking for a Backend Engineer who will work in our Trust and Safety (T&S) team. Our mission is for trust to become one of main competitive advantages for our company.

The T&S team is crucial for this mission, as we are there to ensure users on our platform can trade safely and users have trust in each other when trading.

As a Backend developer in this team, you will work on a variety of projects; ranging from building risk profiles/trust scores and other fraud prevention methods, to building systems which help facilitate safe and respectful trade between users. You'll have the opportunity to block and catch fraudsters, collaborate with parties like law enforcement agencies and banks along the way. Your development work will be making a valuable difference.

You will report to the team Engineering Manager.

What you'll do

• You are going to be a part of a collaborative, informal, international and playful work environment with self-organised, multi-disciplinary agile/lean teams
• You will get managers and teammates who are invested in your growth as a technologist and as a person
• You will work with modern technologies such as Scala, Java, Kotlin, Node.js, Apache Kafka, Elasticsearch, Cassandra and more in a fast-evolving Microservices architecture
• You will access tools and resources to do your job (best-in-class laptop, IDEs, Safari Online subscription, conferences and meetups, all the coffee and soda you can drink, and much more)
• You will be able to join and participate in multiple internal interest groups in Marktplaats(NL) and 2dehands(BE) and across Adevinta in trending topics like Machine Learning, AI, DevOps, BigData and others
• You will use Continuous Deployment through multiple environments to get rapid feedback about your work
• You will work on one of the most beloved brands in the Netherlands
• You will work in a hybrid work model

Who you are

• You have 3+ years experience in backend development (Java and/or Scala)
• You have strong collaboration skills and ability to influence a multi-functional team to deliver results
• You have experience in e-Commerce or high traffic/distributed systems
• You are Product and Experiment focused
• You have preferably a degree in Computer Sciences or comparable topic
• You already live in the Netherlands and are entitled to work here
