Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will contribute to the development of ABB's next generation People Protection products, supporting the evolution of our RCBO platform and helping transform innovative concepts into reliable products used worldwide. You will work in a multidisciplinary R&D environment, combining mechanical design, engineering simulations, prototyping and testing activities. You will also have the opportunity to leverage digital engineering methodologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to accelerate product development, improve engineering efficiency and support technical decision-making.

This role is contributing to the Smart Buildings business in Vittuone (Milan).

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Contributing to the development and evolution of ABB's RCBO platform, supporting projects from concept definition through product validation.
• Designing innovative electromechanical solutions for next-generation protection devices, from concept development and 3D CAD modelling to simulation, prototyping, testing and product validation.
• Creating and maintaining 3D CAD models, assemblies and technical documentation using CATIA V5 and Creo.
• Performing engineering studies and simulations to optimize product performance, robustness, reliability and manufacturability.
• Supporting prototype assembly, laboratory testing and validation activities in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Applying digital engineering methodologies and exploring AI-powered tools to improve product development processes and engineering productivity.
• Collaborating with Mechanical, Electrical, Testing, Manufacturing and Quality teams to deliver innovative and competitive solutions.
• Identifying technical risks and supporting project objectives related to quality, cost and timing.
• Staying up to date with emerging technologies, engineering methods and industry trends.

Qualifications for the role

• Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Engineering qualification.
• Good knowledge of mechanical design principles and product development processes.
• Experience with 3D CAD design tools; knowledge of CATIA V5 and/or Creo is highly appreciated.
• Basic knowledge of engineering simulation tools and methods, including structural, thermal or multiphysics analysis.
• Interest in Artificial Intelligence applications for engineering, simulation and product development.
• Knowledge of MATLAB is considered a plus.
• Knowledge of SAP and PLM/PDM environments is considered a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
• You are at ease communicating fluently in Italian and English.

Minimum annual salary: € 36.000 

Variable Pay: Eligible for Company Productivity Bonus
