The team:
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Agent & Customer Excellence team in Manchester. This team have a vision to create a customer service operation that functions at peak efficiency whilst consistently delivering an effortless customer and agent experience. Customer Services are the face of Zopa and the people our customers trust and turn to for help. Our mission is to leverage new & existing technology to ensure customer interactions are seamless, swift and accurate whilst developing the tools, systems and processes agents need to work effectively.

You’ll work in a product-focused environment where engineers own their work end-to-end, deploy to production frequently, and see the real-world impact of what they build. You’ll also get to work with a modern tech stack: Kotlin, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Aurora Postgres and more.
We work hybrid, with at least 2 days a week together in our Manchester office.
A day in the life:
- Leading a team of engineers focused on building Zopa’s retail finance product
- Supporting engineers through coaching, 1:1s, career development and goal-setting
- Collaborating closely with Product, Delivery and Commercial to plan and deliver outcomes
- Championing engineering excellence — from clean code to testing, observability and CI/CD
- Improving system reliability and scalability as our merchant footprint grows
- Ensuring quality is built in at every stage of the SDLC
- Bringing a clear sense of purpose, energy and structure to our Manchester teams
About you:
- You’ve led engineering teams that build customer-facing digital products
- You’re an empathetic leader — focused on growth, trust and accountability
- You’ve worked with high-availability distributed systems or financial platforms
- You’re excited by the challenge of launching a new team and establishing a strong culture
- You’ve collaborated closely with product managers, delivery leads and other stakeholders
- You know how to create momentum, prioritise clearly and guide teams through complexity
- You care deeply about software quality and user outcomes

We value face-to-face collaboration and a good work-life balance. This hybrid role requires you to come to our Manchester office 2-3 days a week. (WeWork, Dalton Place, 29 John Dalton Street, M2 6WF) Please note this office is dog friendly so you might see some furry friends about!
