In this role, you will
- Proactively identify potential safety hazards in Zoox’s operations of autonomous driving as a service through structured predictive safety analysis and review of historical operational data
- Lead systems safety’s special project to develop prevention and mitigation strategies that can minimize potential safety issues during operations and service, in close collaboration with cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, legal, safety policy, manufacturing, etc. These safety strategies could include engineering solutions in hardware and software, as well as operational mitigations and process improvements
- Be the point of contact for SDMA for cross-functional collaborations with other stakeholders (Perception, Planner, Vehicle Engineering, Advance hardware engineering, Teleguidance, etc) as well as SDMA lead working with various subteams such as functional safety, operational safety, autonomy validation, quantitative risk analysis)
- Author validation clearance report to support safety clearance
Qualifications
- BS degree in a relevant engineering field
- Have minimally 5-7 years of experience in deploying and managing complex AV features
- Systems engineering and system safety training
- Experience in identifying and mitigating issues in real-world operations and service
- Possesses excellent EQ with an empathetic communication style that fosters connection, collaboration and motivation
- Track-record in leading and managing complex cross-functional projects
- Familiarity with formal safety analysis (STPA, FTA, etc)
Bonus Qualifications
- Have senior leadership experience (8+ years) in deploying and managing complex field operations in relevant domains
- Working experience in automotive industry or the autonomous driving technology industry
- Solid understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns
- Experience in developing operational tools/features
- Experience distributed systems, telemetry, or cloud platforms
- Working level experience with safety critical systems
- Familiarity with industry safety standards such as MIL-STD-882, ISO 26262, ISO 21448, etc.
