Senior Systems Engineer

THE ROLE

The Senior Systems Engineer would report to the Manager of Infrastructure Engineering performing functions related to the day-to-day operations of the infrastructure supporting the business including data center operations, hardware, operating systems, network configuration, virtualization, backups and recovery and security of the environment. This person would work closely with team members around the globe to provide 24x7 support including occasional on-call responsibilities. Sr. Systems Engineer must be able to work independently leading his/her own projects to completion with little direction from others, while acquiring information from the team as needed. This person would work not only to maintain the current environment, but automate and simplify the systems, advancing the infrastructure and business as necessary. This person would be experienced working in an enterprise data center environment and would be at least minimally knowledgeable about data center operations, power configuration, HVAC, etc and able to advise on such matters. Sr. Systems Engineer would have his/her own area of expertise where s/he is looked to as the subject matter expert for the company and asked to attend meetings or conversations to discuss related issues.

Responsibilities:

• Establishing and maintaining Puppet Enterprise Configuration Management Environment for established Linux/Solaris Environment
• Augmenting an existing automated build environment for physical/virtual machines
• Developing automation scripts for day-to-day tasks for Systems Engineering team
• Helping lead effort to integrate hardware, software, network, process and procedure from acquired business unit
• Assisting in developing plan for data center consolidation and automation of processes related to it 

Desired Skills and Experience:

• 10+ years experience Linux, Unix (Solaris, AIX, Other) administration
• 5+ Years VMWare ESX with VCenter Administration with DRS, SDRS, DVS and PowerCLI
• 5+ Years shell scripting (bash, bsh, ksh, sed, awk), Perl, Ruby or Python  
• 3-5 years system monitoring with commercial products (Nagios, Xymon, SolarWinds)
• 3-5 years Hardware management (HP/Dell/Cisco UCS)
• 1-2 years puppet configuration management
• 5+ years MS-Office (Word/Excel/Outlook/Lync or Skype For Business)
• Strong Communication Skills
• Good at teaching others and facilitating conversations including whiteboarding sessions
• Strong Documentation Skills especially using wiki systems
• Able to take direction, but also able to provide some direction and input into maintaining and improving the environment
• Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent area of studies
• Ability to lift 50lbs
• Ability to climb ladders as required

• 1-2 Years storage administration (EMC, Netapp, 3par, Hitachi)
• 1-2 years F5 load balancer administration
• 1-2 years Cloud Mangement (AWS, Azure, RackSpace or equivalent)
• 2-3 years application development (Java, C++, C#/VB.NET, PHP, HTML, Javascript)
• 1-2 years Continuous integration (Jenkins, TeamCity, etc.)

SALARY RANGE

The salary range for this role is $110,000.00 - $120,000.00, depending on location and experience.
