Job Description

Zendesk is looking for an experienced Paralegal to join its world-class legal team and support the evolving and impactful litigation function. The right candidate will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact within our high growth, private equity backed company. This role reports to the Sr. Counsel, Litigation, and will collaborate extensively with our Employment Legal, People & Places, Corporate Legal, Legal Operations, Privacy Legal, and Finance functions.

Zendesk develops software that helps its 160,000+ paid customer accounts across more than 150 countries and territories to build the best customer experience. As a CX company, we are at the forefront of the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence and machine learning technology, and we will do so in line with strict yet wide-ranging and evolving legal and ethical standards.

Responsibilities (what you get to do every day):

  • Proactively work to support Zendesk’s litigation counsel on myriad court cases, arbitrations, and informal disputes, both in the U.S. and worldwide, to achieve desired outcomes in keeping with business objectives.

  • Manage the subpoena intake and response process, ensuring timely and accurate responses.

  • Assist in the analysis of evidence and case materials to identify key issues; draft summaries and correspondence as needed.

  • Organize and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are up to date and easily accessible.

  • Use case management software to track case progress, manage deadlines, and document case activities.

  • Assist Litigation Counsel with monitoring and tracking litigation budgets, ensuring adherence to financial constraints and reporting any discrepancies. This includes collaborating with insurers regarding claims and coverage issues related to litigation matters.

  • Serve as a liaison between internal teams, external counsel, and other stakeholders to facilitate communication and information flow.

  • Assist in procurement and engagement of outside counsel.

Requirements (what you bring to the role):

  • Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate/Associates degree from an approved program.

  • Excellent English language skills - our legal documents are in English, typically under US law. Please submit resumes in English.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a paralegal at a law firm, and 2+ years in-house. Strong preference for litigation experience.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills, including an ability to articulate a problem and effectively gather facts from a myriad of cross-functional team members.

  • Experience and ability to be accountable, hands-on, a proactive self-starter, and results-oriented – even in a remote environment where many of your colleagues are in different offices and timezones.

  • Experience in legal research, organization, drafting and negotiation, and good judgment to know when issues need to be escalated.

  • Proficient in legal research tools and case management software.

  • Desire to roll up your sleeves and embrace a growth mindset: no task is too big or small with an interest in learning and growing.

  • Positive attitude and ability to work effectively on a team.
