Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Technical Manager – Mechanical Engineering who can lead complex engineering projects while providing hands-on technical direction and mentorship to a team of senior engineers.
The ideal candidate should be an all-round mechanical engineering professional with strong expertise in mechanical design, concept development, engineering analysis, problem solving, project execution, and customer communication. The candidate should be comfortable independently managing multiple projects simultaneously and leading technically challenging programs from concept through completion.
This role requires a balance of technical depth, project ownership, leadership, communication, and business awareness.
Key Responsibilities
•Lead and independently manage multiple mechanical engineering projects simultaneously, ensuring technical quality, schedule, cost, and customer expectations are met.
•Provide strong technical leadership in mechanical design, concept generation, product development, and engineering problem solving.
•Develop and review mechanical concepts, architectures, layouts, mechanisms, assemblies, and detailed designs.
•Perform and/or guide engineering analysis, design calculations, tolerance analysis, and design validation.
•Review engineering designs and provide technical direction to senior engineers and project teams.
•Lead a group of senior mechanical engineers, assigning work, reviewing technical outputs, and ensuring effective project execution.
•Act as the technical escalation point for complex engineering issues and provide practical solutions.
•Independently drive projects from requirements definition → concept development → detailed design → analysis → validation → release.
•Identify technical risks, dependencies, resource requirements, and project constraints and proactively address them.
•Conduct design reviews, technical discussions, project reviews, and customer presentations.
•Interact directly with customers, global engineering teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
•Translate customer requirements into clear technical solutions and engineering deliverables.
•Mentor and develop senior engineers and technical leads, helping build a strong engineering organization.
•Establish and promote good engineering practices, design standards, review processes, and quality expectations.
•Support estimation, technical proposals, resource planning, project planning, and effort/schedule forecasting.
•Ensure engineering deliverables meet required quality, performance, reliability, manufacturability, and documentation standards.
•Collaborate with manufacturing, electrical, systems, software, quality, sourcing, and other cross-functional teams.
•Continuously identify opportunities for improving engineering processes, productivity, quality, and technical capability.
Technical Competencies
The candidate should have strong practical knowledge and experience in:
•Mechanical product design and development
•Concept generation and architecture development
•3D CAD modelling and complex assemblies
•Mechanism and structural design
•Engineering calculations and design analysis
•Tolerance stack-up and GD&T
•Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA)
•Material selection and manufacturing processes
•Design verification and validation
•Root cause analysis and engineering problem solving
• Design reviews and technical documentation
• Engineering change management
• Product lifecycle development
• Risk assessment and technical decision making
Experience with CAD/CAE tools and engineering analysis software is expected, with the ability to understand and review
engineering outputs rather than relying solely on tool operation.
Project & Leadership Skills
• Proven ability to independently manage multiple projects at the same time.
• Strong ownership and accountability for project deliverables.
• Ability to prioritize competing requirements and manage complex dependencies.
• Experience leading senior engineers and technical leads.
• Ability to make sound technical decisions with limited supervision.
• Strong planning, estimation, resource allocation, and execution skills.
• Ability to manage technical risks, escalations, and customer expectations.
• Strong mentoring and coaching capability.
• Ability to build a culture of technical ownership, quality, and accountability.
Communication & Presentation Skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong ability to communicate complex technical topics in a simple and structured manner.
• Confident in conducting technical presentations, design reviews, project reviews, and customer meetings.
• Comfortable communicating with engineers, managers, customers, and senior leadership.
• Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to represent the engineering organization professionally in customer-facing situations.
Preferred Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is an all-round engineering professional who combines:
Deep Technical Expertise + Project Management + People Leadership + Customer Communication + Business Understanding
The person should be equally comfortable reviewing a complex mechanical design, solving a technical problem, leading a
senior engineering team, presenting to a customer, and managing multiple project priorities.
Education
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 15+ years of relevant industry experience in mechanical engineering/product development.
• Proven experience in technical leadership and managing engineering teams/projects.
Key Attributes
• Technically strong and hands-on
• Strong ownership and accountability
• Independent decision maker
• Analytical and structured problem solver
• Customer-oriented
• Excellent communicator and presenter
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Business and delivery focused
