Location: Eschborn, Munich, Hamburg

Time Type: Full time

Job Description

Founded in Switzerland in 1968, Zühlke is owned by its partners and located across Europe and Asia. We are a global transformation partner, with engineering and innovation in our DNA. We're trusted to help clients envision and build their businesses for the future – to run smarter today while adapting for tomorrow’s markets, customers, and communities. Our multidisciplinary teams specialise in tech strategy and business innovation, digital solutions and applications, and device and systems engineering. We excel in complex, regulated spaces including health and finance, connecting strategy, tech implementation, and operational services to help clients become more effective, resilient businesses.

If you share our values and want to do the best work, for the right reasons, we can offer you the chance to do it on a global scale and play a real role in shaping our exciting journey.

The Role

Are you passionate about transforming raw, messy data into valuable, reliable solutions? Do you thrive at the intersection of deep technical expertise and client-focused consulting? Zühlke is looking for an Expert Data Engineer specializing in Databricks and modern data platforms to join our team.

How you'll make Impact

  • Understand the Real Problem: Collaborate with clients to uncover their true needs, translating business requirements into robust technical solutions. You’re comfortable challenging assumptions to ensure we solve the right problems.

  • Build Pipelines That Last: Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes that run smoothly and require minimal firefighting.

  • Architect on Databricks: Lead the architecture and implementation of data platforms on Databricks, leveraging Delta Lake, workflows, and cluster management to deliver solutions that fit the client’s scale and budget.

  • Own the Infrastructure: Set up and maintain cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices, ensuring reproducibility and reliable deployments.

  • Champion Data Quality: Make data quality, governance, and security a priority from the start, not an afterthought.

  • Optimize for Performance and Cost: Continuously improve data processing for speed and efficiency, balancing technical elegance with cost-effectiveness.

  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to build integrated, high-impact data platforms.

  • Mentor and Share Knowledge: Support junior engineers and contribute to best practices and internal knowledge sharing, helping others grow and succeed.

What's important to us

  • Deep Databricks Expertise: Hands-on experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Spark, workflows, jobs, and Unity Catalog. You know when Databricks is the right tool—and when it isn’t.

  • Strong SQL and Python Skills: You use these daily and write clean, maintainable code.

  • Modern Cloud & Data Architecture Knowledge: Proficient with Azure and/or AWS, and familiar with lakehouse and data warehousing approaches.

  • Pipeline Orchestration Experience: Skilled with tools like Airflow, Databricks Workflows, or dbt for structuring and scheduling maintainable pipelines.

  • Software Engineering Discipline: Clean code, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and DevOps are part of your standard toolkit.

  • Consulting Experience: Several years in professional data engineering, ideally in client-facing roles, navigating shifting requirements and diverse stakeholders.

  • Independent Problem-Solving: Comfortable working autonomously in fast-paced, evolving environments.

  • Bilingual Communication: Fluent in German and English, able to communicate confidently with clients and colleagues.

  • Solid Technical Foundation: University degree (Uni, FH) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field

What we offer

  • Work life blend: we offer a safe & healthy workplace, with flexible working hours and the possibility to work from home

  • Profit share scheme: In addition to your annual salary, you may receive a profit share defined by the company’s success in the previous year

  • Global and Diverse Zühlke community: witness how colleagues from all our 16 offices across the globe come together to create a unique, positive and inclusive work culture, learning from one another at annual team camps, and celebrating year-end parties and other local festivities.

  • Committed to development: we are committed to the growth of our people and are investing in your development. We’re empowering you to build the skills you need to make a positive impact, both personally and for our clients, today and in the future.
