About the team
The Interviewing Team builds and evolves the survey runtime and capabilities that power reliable, fraud-resilient data collection across devices and channels. Working closely with Authoring, Sampling, Data Management, Data Processing, the Member Platform, and SRE, the team delivers secure, observable, and performant participant experiences.
About the role
As an Engineering Manager, you bring deep technical understanding to your team while owning delivery and technical solutions. You represent your team's needs to stakeholders and leadership, ensuring decisions align with YouGov's long-term goals and vision.
You're as much a people leader as a technology leader, helping teammates grow through delegation, feedback, and regular 1:1s. Beyond your own team, you'll play an active role in the Engineering Management group, helping shape YouGov's broader engineering organisation.
You'll also be central to how YouGov builds with AI. We're embedding AI tools and thinking across engineering - not as a box-ticking exercise, but to genuinely free up engineers to focus on work that matters most. You'll help spot where AI can automate or accelerate tasks, champion best practices, and bring people along on the journey to becoming an AI-enabled organisation.

Identify opportunities to use AI tools to automate or accelerate engineering workflows.
Champion adoption of AI-assisted development practices within your team.
Share learnings and best practices across the engineering organisation as AI tooling evolves.
Drive innovation in survey authoring tools, ensuring usability, scalability, and flexibility.
Lead, coach, and inspire a team of software engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable, and reliable products.

Partner with product, design an upper management to align on vision, priorities, and roadmap execution.
Drive technical excellence, ensuring best practices in architecture, testing, CI/CD, and observability.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance team culture.
Guide modernization efforts, including large-scale language and platform migrations.
Oversee discovery, documentation, and assessment of undocumented features to determine deprecation paths or continued support.
Provide mentorship and career growth opportunities for engineers through regular feedback and development plans.
Help recruit, hire, and onboard top engineering talent.
Balance technical debt, delivery timelines, and innovation to ensure sustainable engineering practices.
These are the essentials you’ll need to get an interview:
Proven experience as an Engineering Manager in a software development environment.
Strong technical foundation with hands-on background in Python, React, Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.
Demonstrated experience leading modernization initiatives such as language/platform migrations.
Excellent people leadership skills with a track record of growing and mentoring engineering teams.
Strong collaboration skills, able to partner effectively with product, design and stakeholders.
Experience driving complex projects from planning through delivery.
Passion for building not only great products but also great teams.
