Sr Staff Software Engineer

Staff Software Engineer, Core Services Platform (L6)
Summary:
Yalo is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to technically lead our Core Services Platform. This role involves owning the architecture and maintaining the reliability of the platform on which all Yalo products and AI agents operate. You will work closely with various teams to integrate new systems and features, ensuring seamless functionality across our channels and messaging pipeline.
Responsibilities:
- Own the architecture of Core Services, including channel and webhook pipeline, accounts, identity, and entitlements.
- Lead technical delivery, scope work, unblock engineers, and review designs and code.
- Utilize AI coding agents for implementation, testing, and review, while maintaining high PR throughput.
- Ensure reliability and observability with clear team ownership, dashboards, alerts, and on-call incident response.
- Lead platform migrations and govern event and message schemas safely.
- Integrate external platform changes and manage billing and credits models.
- Monitor costs and collaborate with DevOps to optimize spending and reduce waste.
- Mentor team members, set standards, and document design reviews.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align platform capabilities with product needs.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years in building and operating back-end services with staff-level engineering or tech lead experience.
- Proficient in Go, Python, SQL, and strong experience in microservices and API development.
- Expertise in event-driven architectures and Kafka.
- Experience with GCP, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems design.
- Experience with identity, authentication, and authorization systems.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding agents and maintaining high PR throughput.
- Proficiency in observability and reliability practices.
- Problem-solving skills in fast-growing platforms with unclear ownership.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with messaging channel APIs like WhatsApp Business or Meta Cloud API.
- Knowledge of Node.js, TypeScript, and schema governance.
- Experience with billing, metering, or usage-based pricing systems.
- Previous role as a tech lead or engineering manager of a small team.
