MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

・Currently pursuing an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree with an expected graduation through to the end of March 2027

※Must be in school until the end of internship program

・Must be available for a 3-month on-site internship in 2025

・Have no more than 24 months of professional full-time work experience in the technology field (excluding internships, research and/or teaching assistant roles, and military experience)

・Overseas Students (Based outside of Japan) who require visa support must meet one of the following requirements:

　　・The internship program is part of your education and essential for your graduation

　　・This internship allows you to receive some credit(s) for your education program

　　・Have Bachelor degree at the time of application

WORKING CONDITIONS

・Start Date: June 1, 2025, August 1, 2025

・Internship Duration: 3 months

・Expected work hours: 5 days (40 hours/week), depending on visa and class scheduling, some flexibility for shorter hours may be available

・Salary Type: Hourly wage

・Work Location: Nihombashi (Head office)

TEAM

Arene's mission is to empower Toyota and its partners to deliver next-generation vehicles with hardware-agnostic software that can be updated to support new features at any time. The Visualization team is responsible for delivering Arene's cloud-based offerings, which range from low-level infrastructure to top-level services. Our team develops web applications that allow external Arene users to access all customer-facing products. We work closely with other engineering teams and collaborate on cross-domain features, fostering a culture of inclusivity and diversity. We welcome challenges and drive innovations from the ground up, all with the goal of creating delightful experiences for our customers.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

The Visualization team has two main areas of responsibility - front and Backend. As a Software Engineer on the Visualization team, you will be exposed to backend technologies as well as some frontend technologies such as web applications, custom UI component libraries, and web-based microservices. You will work closely not only with engineers but also with product owners to implement reliable and scalable microservices while integrating them with frontend components to ensure end-to-end functionality and performance.

Ultimately, you will be a key contributor to the company's vision of transforming "transportation" into "mobility" by combining the best of "Silicon Valley innovation" and "Toyota craftsmanship". You will report to the Team Lead of the Visualization Team, and this role's workplace type is onsite - you will work in the office 5 days per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with product owners to develop features and improvements to AreneOS products in a secure, well-tested, and performant way with guidance and support from mentors and managers.
Integrate front-end and back-end components to ensure end-to-end functionality and performance.
Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance
Solve technical problems of varying levels of complexity

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Familiarity with Git
The ability to understand complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems
Experience in modern programming languages such as Typescript, JavaScript, Python, Go, Kotlin, and Java (Typescript or JavaScript are preferred)
Experience in backend frameworks such as NestJS, Express, Spring, or SpringBoot (NestJS is preferred)
Experience in NodeJS
Working proficiency in English

NICE TO HAVES

Familiarity with web servers such as Nginx and Apache
Familiarity with frontend frameworks such React, NextJS or VueJS
FamiliarityCI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Circle CI, and Jenkins
Familiarity with cloud and network technologies such as AWS, GCP, and K8s
