If so, we are looking for a senior engineering manager who is passionate about collaborating within a team that is building scalable user experiences in frequent iteration with other architects and engineers. This candidate will lead a team of engineers responsible for the foundational infrastructure of multiple Workday products. Through partnerships and direct supervision, the candidate will be responsible for the availability of multiple production services.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Engineering Manager to join our team in building a cutting-edge, cloud-native platform that streamlines the application development process for Workday's Business Applications. This is a unique opportunity to lead a talented and passionate group of developers, fostering an environment of innovation and excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a small team of skilled operations engineers with empathy and vision.

  • Inspire and elevate your team, guiding them through the journey of building robust solutions.

  • Create a fun, diverse, and inclusive environment that encourages creativity and collaboration.

  • Align the team’s work with the broader organizational goals and strategy to ensure cohesive progress.

  • Partner effectively with Workday Support and other Infrastructure teams across the company

  • Collaboration with Workday Cloud Partners

    • Leverage Tooling: Work with Workday cloud partners to utilize available tools effectively, including but not limited to AWS

  • CI/CD Pipeline Management: Design and operate CI/CD pipelines for Lodestar Applications, focusing on automation and software delivery

  • Supporting Development Teams

    • Future Models: Develop and implement support models for development teams, envisioning future needs and strategies

  • Production Service Ownership

    • Interface with Key Stakeholders: Maintain strong communication with support, SRE, and other infrastructure teams

    • Define Ownership Obligations: Establish and negotiate ownership responsibilities with application teams

    • Observability and Tracing: Develop and manage industry-standard observability and tracing for application teams

About You

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or related engineering disciple

  • 5+ years experience supporting customer-facing production workloads, leading and managing engineering teams

Other Qualifications

  • Several years of experience as a hands on ops engineer in a public cloud environment would be advantageous.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, startup-like environment where ambiguity is common.

  • Proven ability to recruit, build, motivate, and inspire a world-class team of developers.

  • A growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning and fostering a learning culture.

  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented design, design patterns, and modern frameworks, tooling, and libraries.

  • Track record of ensuring on-time, high-quality delivery of projects.

  • Attributes of the right candidate:

    • Stoicism in the face of issues.  

    • Bridge builder to create relationships with other Workday teams and external partners.

Workday Pay Transparency Statement

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below.  Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants. Recruiters can share more detail during the hiring process. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need, among other things. Primary Location Base Pay Range: $172,000 USD - $258,000 USD
