About Our Client

Our client is a fast-growing technology company transforming the formalwear rental industry through software. Founded by an iconic entrepreneur in the menswear space, the company has built a sophisticated platform that combines e-commerce, logistics, RFID-powered inventory management, AI-driven fit algorithms, and cloud-native services to deliver an outstanding customer experience.

Their engineering team is scaling both the platform and its architecture to support millions of users while expanding integrations with strategic partners. They are looking for a highly experienced Principal Engineer to help shape the technical future of the business.

Role Overview

As a Senior Principal Engineer, you will serve as one of the primary technical leaders within the engineering organization. This is a highly hands-on role where you'll influence architecture, mentor senior engineers, and guide the evolution of large-scale distributed systems running in production.

You'll collaborate closely with engineering leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teams to design scalable solutions, establish engineering best practices, and drive technical decisions that will impact the business for years to come.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and technical direction of mission-critical platform services.
• Build and evolve high-performance cloud-native applications and APIs.
• Mentor and coach engineers on software architecture, engineering excellence, and best practices.
• Design scalable, maintainable systems that support millions of users.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to deliver complex technical initiatives.
• Drive architectural decisions across multiple product releases.
• Improve deployment strategies, system reliability, and software quality.
• Participate in hands-on software development using modern technologies.
• Promote engineering standards, code quality, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building enterprise-scale software products.
• Current experience as a Principal Engineer, Staff Engineer, Architect, or equivalent technical leadership role.
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• Node.js
• Python
• Django
• REST APIs
• GraphQL
• Deep experience designing cloud-native applications on AWS.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and MySQL performance optimization.
• Experience with Docker and containerized environments.
• Experience implementing authentication and authorization solutions (OAuth2, token services, secrets management).
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and scalable software architecture.
• Experience collaborating with Product Managers and multiple engineering teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent practical experience.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to mentor senior engineers.
• Curious mindset, low ego, and passion for continuous learning.
• Must be located within 3 hours of the Eastern Time Zone (EST) to support occasional collaboration with the team.

• Experience with Laravel.
• Experience scaling applications serving millions of users.
• Architectural leadership through full software lifecycle (design, implementation, migration, production support, and iteration).
• Experience with concurrency, asynchronous processing, queues, sockets, and advanced HTTP concepts.
• Familiarity with modern SaaS infrastructure and third-party platform integrations.
• Experience with machine learning applications.
• Previous experience working at SaaS or software product companies.
