Responsibilities:
- The goal of System Safety & Reliability Intern is to accurately assess risk to inform decision-making which results in an appropriate level of safety. In support of the airworthiness effort, the System Safety Engineer works alongside design engineers across all disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural, software, controls, systems, aerodynamics, flight test, manufacturing) to identify, quantify and identify risks associated with the functions of the aircraft and support systems. The System Safety Engineer employs qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods to determine the likelihood and severity of hazards.
- The System Safety Engineer will also flow down reliability and safety derived requirements to design engineering and flight tests to appropriately mitigate risks.
- The intern will learn about systems safety processes per guidelines provided in SAE/ARP-4754A and SAE/ARP-4761A. Define appropriate safety targets using airworthiness regulations and guidance material such as 14 CFR 23.1309 for developmental aircraft and systems and develop safety mitigation strategies
- The intern will learn about various reliability analyses performed at systems and LRU levels and perform various safety analyses under the guidance of your mentor.
Requirements:
- Must be currently pursuing a bachelors, masters or PhD degree with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and June 2027.
- Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with cybersecurity analysis is a plus, particularly any experience assessing cybersecurity maturity using the NIST framework (preferred but not required).
- You are a highly motivated, self starting individual with a broad set of skills and never afraid of facing complex technical challenges.
- You are a solution oriented individual with a strong analytical mindset.
- You have strong communication skills and can easily tailor your communications to suit the audience.
- You can adapt quickly or propose changes needed to achieve early results in a timely fashion.
- You embrace challenges and take commitments and deliver results within reasonable expectations.
