Responsibilities:
- As part of the ESPS organization, and deployed in the Power Management, Distribution, and Charging Team, you will act as a Mechanical Engineering Intern for a novel type of aircraft development targeting the autonomous UAM market.
- Create 3D CAD models using NX.
- Create and release 2D mechanical design drawings per GD&T.
- Work in a multidisciplinary group to design electromechanical assemblies of high voltage and low voltage components.
- Design mechanical components and assemblies of the high voltage and low voltage battery power distribution hardware (enclosure, brackets, busbars, harnessing, etc).
- Optimize mechanical designs for weight and size by developing creative design solutions using advanced materials and innovative packaging concepts.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams, including aircraft structures, cell development and cable harnessing, to integrate all systems at the aircraft level.
- Build and test prototype(s) to develop new technologies, improve tech maturity, and ensure they meet functional requirements.
- Support prototype builds and testing, conduct trade studies.
Requirements:
- Must be currently pursuing a bachelors, masters or PhD degree with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and June 2027
- Familiar with CAD software such as Siemens NX (preferred), Solidworks, etc.
- Familiar with drafting standards, including GD&T, and can interpret or create engineering drawings.
- You have worked on the development of complex hardware products in aerospace, automotive or other similar industrial applications. Prior experience through internships or with student design teams (ex: FSAE) is a plus.
- You have hands-on experience building prototypes, setting up and running tests. Preference will be given for experience with EVs, batteries, power electronics or other high-voltage applications.
- You have strong documentation skills and can write detailed test and analysis technical reports.
- Embrace learning, be curious, organized & methodical and pay attention to detail
- Experience working within large assembly environments strongly preferred.
- You have a safety-oriented mindset and have worked around hazardous equipment requiring advanced safety training. Experience and training with high-voltage (HV) a strong advantage.
- You are a highly motivated, self starting individual with a broad set of skills and never afraid of facing complex technical challenges.
- You are a solution oriented individual with a strong analytical mindset.
