Job Description

The team you will join: Tax Experience

With Wise Assets, we’ve enabled customers to grow the money they hold with Wise - giving them access to government-backed assets that track base rates, or a global stock index fund. This is a product that challenges traditional banking by putting customers in control of how their balance is held. Banks keep the yield; we pass it on.

The approach is unique:

• Segregated, bankruptcy-protected custody

About the Team: 

Our investment products create tax obligations. The team mission is to make tax season effortless and seamless for Wise customers. We strive to simplify tax complexities by doing the heavy lifting for them, ensuring they easily understand their tax obligations. Additionally, we provide comprehensive, crystal-clear reporting to guarantee total product transparency. Our goal is to empower customers with the insights they need to feel completely confident in our platform and understand exactly how it works for them.

What you’ll do

• Partner with a Product Manager and a cross-functional team to shape the roadmap, set the technical and product vision, and ensure we deliver scalable, resilient solutions.
• Lead, coach, and mentor a talented group of engineers — helping them grow, removing blockers, and enabling them to do their best work.
• Ensure strong execution: clear planning, realistic commitments, and healthy team operations.
• Stay close to the tech and the product — setting high standards for engineering quality and leading by example.
• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Work with other engineering leads across Wise to keep the team aligned with our wider technical strategy and long-term architecture.
• Own hiring, development, and long-term impact of your team.

Qualifications

We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. So if you have some of those listed below and are eager to learn more we do want to hear from you!

• A strong product mindset and passion for user experience, you prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points

• Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audiences

• Ability to work independently while also being a supportive team player. Your work will frequently involve cross-team collaboration.

• Ability to break down complex projects into incremental milestones that deliver customer value

• Ability to coordinate complex projects across different teams

• Experience in developing web applications and distributed systems in a production environment

• Experience with common design and architectural patterns coupled with a passion for writing clean code that is performant and well tested

• Curiosity and drive for continuous learning and improvement

• Following and advocating best coding practices, continuous delivery and code reviews

• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation and designing schemas is a plus

• Knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, and with a messaging system, like Kafka, is a plus. But don’t worry we don’t expect you to know everything!
