System Performance Models (SPM) Simulation Engineer

This role in summary

Whirlpool is currently seeking qualified candidates for a System Performance Models (SPM) Simulation Engineer opening to join our Dishwasher Simulation Based Design organization. This position will be located in St Joseph, Michigan, USA.

Your responsibilities will include

• Use 1D tools to predict Dishwasher energy consumption and overall thermal performance
• Build representative dishwasher 1D models, evaluate designs, validate with physical testing and perform iterations to drive efficient designs for optimal product performance.
• Write simulation reports , knowledge documents, A3, and CCDs (calibration and correlation document) to capture knowledge and promote future reuse.
• Develop new techniques and simulation capabilities to reduce overall simulation and design cycle time.
• Work with cross functional, category and global teams to align with simulation capabilities, methods and knowledge sharing.
• Manage multiple projects while maintaining a strong communication bridge with design and lab personnel.
• Mathematical and analytical capability to emulate the physics.
• Modeling techniques (joint models, mesh, boundary conditions)
• Responsible for working with diverse global teams

Minimum requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 1+ years of 1D simulation experience 
• 1+ years of experience in Modelica modeling and simulation environments (Dymola, Modelon Impact or similar)

Preferred skills and experiences

• Master of Science in Thermal/Mechanical Engineering
• Experience using scripting languages for tasks automation and data analysis (Python) 
• Dishwasher product experience is a plus.
• Optimization techniques (multi-objective attribute analysis, numerical methods, finite element algorithms)
• Experience in AI-ML and data modeling
• Experience in Product testing
• Experience in handling FMU and plant models
• Statistical knowledge in data analysis with Six Sigma methodologies
• Software: Dymola,Modelica, Modefrontier, GT suite, Python, VBA, CAE tools
• Background on Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, and Thermodynamics.
• Strong problem solving skills, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
