Job Description

A Program Manager for Sustainability is responsible for leading and overseeing sustainability programs, projects, and initiatives within an organization. This role involves developing strategies, managing resources, and ensuring that environmental and social sustainability goals are met. The program manager ensures that sustainability initiatives are aligned with organizational objectives and regulatory requirements, promoting eco-friendly practices and fostering a culture of sustainability across the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, implement, and monitor sustainability strategies and goals that align with the organization’s objectives.
• Plan, manage, and execute sustainability projects from inception to completion.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth execution of sustainability programs.
• Monitor project progress and report on sustainability metrics.
• Build relationships with environmental organizations, regulatory bodies, and other sustainability networks.
• Gather and analyze data related to sustainability initiatives (e.g., carbon footprint, energy usage, waste management).
• Prepare sustainability reports, presentations, and updates for management and stakeholders.
• Stay informed on the latest trends and innovations in sustainability and propose new ideas to improve sustainability efforts.
• Implement best practices related to sustainability across the organization.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements in sustainability operations.
• Identify potential sustainability-related risks, including regulatory changes, environmental impacts, and community relations issues.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field (required).
• Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management, or an MBA with a focus on sustainability (preferred).
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in sustainability or related fields, with at least 3 years in a program or project management role.
• Experience in managing cross-functional teams and large-scale sustainability initiatives.

PREFERRED:

• LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
• PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
• ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) certification.
• Certified Sustainability Professional (CSP).

SKILLS:

1. Leadership & Project Management:
   • Strong leadership skills to drive sustainability initiatives and manage teams.
   • Proven experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, and execution.
2. Sustainability Knowledge:
   • In-depth understanding of sustainability practices, environmental regulations, and social responsibility.
3. Analytical & Data-driven:
   • Ability to analyze complex sustainability data and provide actionable insights.
   • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
4. Communication & Interpersonal:
   • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with various stakeholders.
   • Ability to present complex sustainability data and initiatives in a clear and engaging manner.
