Software / Data Engineer
Location: Remote
Software / Data EngineerWe need an experienced Software Engineer at the Department of War’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO). SAPRO is the Department's single authority for preventing sexual assault and supporting survivors across the military, and its progress depends on accurate data about Service member experiences. This Software / Data Engineer role has a strong data-engineering focus. You will research, design, develop, and enhance computer and network software and specialized utility programs while building and maintaining the data pipelines, ETL workflows, automation, and database capabilities that support SAPRO's mission. The role requires hands-on experience with R and/or SQL for data manipulation, extraction, and transformation, as well as experience developing ETL pipelines using tools and languages such as Databricks, Python, and R. This is a full-time, fully remote opportunity. We can offer a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research, design, and develop computer and network software or specialized utility programs
- Analyze user needs and develop software solutions using principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis
- Update software and enhance existing software capabilities to meet evolving mission requirements
- Develop and implement data pipelines using ETL platforms and languages such as Databricks, Python, and R
- Use R and/or SQL for data manipulation, extraction, transformation, and analytical workflows
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines and automation efforts
- Support development of specifications and performance requirements in coordination with technical team members
- Maintain databases within the application area, working independently or coordinating database development as part of a team
- Collaborate across functional teams and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Three (3) to ten (10) years of directly related experience
- At least three (3) years of experience as a Data Engineer
- High-level proficiency and professional experience using R and/or SQL for data manipulation, extraction, and transformation tasks
- Experience developing and implementing data pipelines using ETL platforms and languages such as Databricks, Python, and/or R
- Hands-on experience maintaining and optimizing data pipelines and automation efforts
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in Advana
- Experience working with and cleaning survey data
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality results with little direction or oversight
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and communicating technical information to technical and non-technical audiences
EDUCATION
- B.A./B.S. or M.A./M.S. in a related field
LOCATION
- Remote - Full telework
CLEARANCE
- Active Secret security clearance
- U.S. citizenship is required

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION
- Employment Classification Eligibility - W2
COMPENSATION
- Salary range: $150,000 - $160,000

Other Considerations: applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of the time.
