About this role:

• Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to lead transformational engineering initiatives across Generative AI, Chaos Engineering.
• This role drives modernization of engineering practices, resilience frameworks, automation capabilities, and AI‑augmented engineering solutions supporting mission‑critical platforms across Wells Fargo Technology.
• This position is suited for a highly influential technical leader with deep expertise in distributed systems, reliability engineering, and AI—capable of shaping enterprise strategy, mentoring engineering talent, and delivering resilient, scalable, and innovative solutions.
• Candidates with prior Lead Engineer–level impact or industry recognition will receive strong preference.

In this role, you will:

• Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
• Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large-scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
• Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
• Review and analyse complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
• Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
• Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
• Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Job Expectations:

• Experience in developing end to end solutions with significant exposure to automation and platform engineering
• Lead the design and development of automation frameworks and platform tools used across engineering and operations teams
• Build and maintain python-based automation services, APIs and backend utilities
• Develop intuitive React based UI for monitoring, orchestration and operational visibility
• Create and manage job scheduling workflows using Autosys
• Write and optimize Shell scripts for system automation, deployments and operational tasks
• Drive platform reliability and scalability through automation of repetitive operational processes
• Collaborate with DevOps SRE and Application & Support teams to identify automation Opportunities
• Establish best practices, coding standards and review processes for automation development
• Mentor junior developer and engineers and provide technical leadership within the platform automation space
• Participate in incident response and problem management, building automations to prevent recurrence
• Develop solutions using REST APIs, system integrations and service orchestrations
• Expertise with PowerShell scripting and Linux/Unix environments
• Experience working with version control systems (Git)
• Experience with containerization (Docker and Kubernetes)
• Experience with Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible)
• Understanding of SRE principles and reliability engineering
• Proven ability to lead technical initiatives end to end
• Strong problem solving and system design skills
• Proactive mindset with a focus on automation-first thinking
