CAD Automation Engineer
Team: Technology, Information and Media
Location: Bengaluru
Commitment: Full-time
Workplace Type: onsite
Salary:
We are looking for a highly skilled CAD Software Development Engineer with 3+ years of hands-on experience in CAD API programming, software customization, and Windows-based application development. The role focuses on building and maintaining reliable CAD automation systems, integrating multiple CAD platforms, handling complex file formats, and improving the performance and reliability of 3D processing and visualization workflows.
The ideal candidate will have strong production experience with C++ and C#, deep expertise in at least one major CAD API such as SolidWorks API, Creo Toolkit, NX Open, or CATIA CAA, and strong debugging skills across processes, memory, COM, and RPC layers.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance CAD automation and API integration solutions using C# and C++.
- Manage SolidWorks instances running as headless, multi-process services with robust process lifecycle management.
- Diagnose and resolve RPC errors, COM failures, application crashes, process hangs, and memory-level issueson Windows.
- Build reliable process-pool mechanisms with health checks, automatic recovery, graceful degradation, and kill-and-restart capabilities.
- Extend CAD automation capabilities including STEP export, JSON export, drawing generation, and geometry processing.
- Develop and maintain integrations with multiple CAD platforms, including SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, and similar systems.
- Build a common abstraction and integration layer to support multiple CAD engines and reduce platform-specific dependencies.
- Debug and resolve GLB/GLTF, STEP, and other CAD file conversion and export issues.
- Handle CAD files generated across different software platforms and versions, including CATIA, Creo, Fusion, NX, and others.
- Work with B-Rep geometry, solid and surface bodies, feature recognition, geometry validation, and surface/solid detection.
- Improve 3D viewer reliability, including face selection, bounding-box calculations, rendering performance, ray casting, and geometry interaction.
- Ensure compatibility across multiple SolidWorks versions, including API differences and backward-compatibility requirements.
- Design and implement integration approaches for new CAD platforms, including C++-based toolkits such as Creo Toolkit.
- Define effective interaction between C# and C++ components and establish reusable cross-CAD data models.
- Participate in debugging, code reviews, architecture discussions, regression testing, and continuous improvement of CAD processing systems.
- Use modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate API research, debugging, code exploration, and development.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- 3+ years of professional experience in CAD software development, CAD customization, or CAD API programming; CAD software usage alone is not sufficient.
- Strong production-level programming experience in C++ and C#.
- Hands-on experience with COM interop, Windows development, process management, services, RPC, and system-level debugging.
- Deep expertise in at least one CAD development API such as SolidWorks API, Creo Toolkit, NX Open, CATIA CAA, or an equivalent platform.
- Understanding of CAD application limitations around multithreading, process isolation, concurrency, and application stability, with experience implementing practical workarounds.
- Strong knowledge of STEP file formats, B-Rep geometry, solid versus surface bodies, and basic feature recognition.
- Experience troubleshooting CAD files and geometry generated by different CAD systems and software versions.
- Strong understanding of Windows processes, memory behavior, COM objects, RPC communication, and application lifecycle management.
- Ability to design scalable integration architectures across multiple CAD platforms.
- Strong analytical, debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working with complex, poorly documented APIs and independently researching technical problems.
- Familiarity with modern AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude and an ability to use them effectively for research, debugging, and rapid iteration.
- Strong ownership, attention to detail, and ability to work independently on technically challenging engineering problems.
