Key Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise-level transportation data analytics initiatives across VHB’s multidisciplinary service lines, aligning technical solutions with client business objectives and organizational strategy.
- Build, mentor, and manage high-performing teams of data analysts and technical specialists, fostering collaboration, innovation, and professional development.
- Serve as the technical and strategic lead for complex structured and unstructured transportation datasets, driving data-informed decision-making for public and private sector clients.
- Direct the design, development, and implementation of scalable dashboards, web applications, and data platforms that support advanced analytics, operational reporting, and client-facing solutions.
- Establish and oversee best practices for data architecture, ETL workflows, governance, quality assurance, and statistical integrity across large and complex datasets.
- Lead the development, validation, and deployment of predictive, prescriptive, and machine learning models to support transportation planning, operations, and policy decisions.
- Drive innovation by identifying emerging technologies, advanced analytics methodologies, and automation opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and business outcomes.
- Translate complex analytical findings into actionable insights and strategic recommendations for executive leadership, clients, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Partner with cross-functional teams including engineers, planners, technologists, and client stakeholders to deliver integrated, data-driven transportation solutions.
- Provide technical oversight and thought leadership for transportation data initiatives involving probe data, connected vehicle data, mobility analytics, and cloud-based platforms.
- Develop standards, frameworks, and repeatable processes that improve analytical consistency, operational efficiency, and long-term scalability across projects.
- Lead client engagement efforts related to data analytics strategy, technical solution development, project delivery, and business development support.
- Champion continuous improvement and knowledge sharing by training and mentoring staff on advanced analytics tools, methodologies, and evolving industry practices.
Skills and Attributes
Data Management & Analytics Leadership:
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale transportation analytics programs and managing complex, high-volume datasets.
- Advanced expertise in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and data-driven decision support for transportation operations and planning.
- Ability to establish data governance standards, quality controls, and scalable analytics frameworks across teams and projects.
Technical Leadership:
- Strong experience leading technical implementations using Databricks, SQL, Power BI, cloud data platforms, APIs, and enterprise analytics environments.
- Expertise in spatial and non-spatial transportation datasets, data integration strategies, and scalable ETL pipeline development.
- Advanced programming and automation skills using Python, R, or similar scripting languages to support enterprise analytics solutions.
Strategic Communication & Collaboration:
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts and analytical insights to executive leadership, clients, and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Experience facilitating collaboration across technical and non-technical teams while driving consensus and strategic alignment.
Industry & Client Expertise:
- Experience supporting DOTs, transportation agencies, and public-sector clients with data-driven transportation planning and operational solutions.
- Strong understanding of data privacy, security, and regulatory considerations within transportation analytics environments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience with advanced analytics in the engineering/transportation industry specifically providing services to DOTs, transportation agencies and/or state and federal governments.
- Master's degree in Data Science, Engineering, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent discipline; or equivalent experience.
- Deep understanding of transportation and mobility datasets including connected vehicle and probe data sources.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work for VHB in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
The full-time annual base salary range for this position is $145,000 to $195,000 if located in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts or Washington D.C and $130,000 to $175,000 if located in Florida or Georgia. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
We may consider candidates from another VHB office or state location not currently listed.
Annual base salary is one component of VHB’s Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
