The role 

Impact Expected

As the Technical Lead for the Onboard Experience Team, you will collaborate with a team of Android and full-stack engineers to shape the software experience for autonomous vehicle operators. You will guide technical strategy and execution, contributing to the development of reliable, scalable, and user-centered software. Your work will enhance operational efficiency and create exceptional in-vehicle experiences for internal stakeholders and demo participants.

Challenges You Will Own

  • Technical Leadership: Collaborate with the team to shape the technical vision and guide the architecture and implementation of the team’s software solutions, aligning them with organizational goals and engineering best practices.
  • Collaboration and Innovation: Partner with teams across the organization to solve unique challenges and create solutions that enhance the onboard experience.
  • System Scalability and Reliability: Drive the development of scalable, maintainable systems with a strong emphasis on testing, observability, and performance.
  • Developing for Unique Environments: Optimize solutions for unique compute and networking constraints, where your app-server resides in a car navigating unpredictable city environments.
  • Hands-On Testing with Users: Spend time in vehicles, testing changes directly as a passenger, and work with operators to gather feedback and refine software in real-world scenarios.
  • Safety and Regulatory Excellence: Ensure compliance with critical safety requirements and regulatory constraints, delivering robust and reliable performance.
  • Innovation and Problem Solving: Apply your technical expertise to address complex challenges and design user-focused solutions for a wide range of operational use cases.
  • Fostering Growth: Foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning within the team to promote skill development and engineering excellence.

About You

Essential

  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience designing and delivering complex systems, with a focus on frontend development and backend integration at scale. The team stack includes React, Typescript, Kotlin and Rust.
  • Strategic leadership: Experience leading technical decisions and contributing to architectural strategies in alignment with team and company goals.
  • Collaborative Skills: A collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and integration of solutions with broader organizational needs.
  • Quality Focus: A strong commitment to high engineering standards, including testing, observability, and automation.
  • User-Focused Development: A focus on delivering solutions tailored to the needs of our users, informed by operational feedback and real-world challenges.

Desirable

  • Automotive Knowledge: Familiarity with in-vehicle systems, including Android Auto or similar platforms.
  • API Development Expertise: Experience with gRPC or other strongly typed API interfaces.
  • Interest in Autonomous Systems: A passion for AI, robotics, or autonomous vehicle technology, with experience in these areas being a bonus.
  • Educational Background: A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
