About the role:
The Director, Platform Engineering is responsible for the end-to-end health of the shared infrastructure and platform on which Wave products are built. Working collaboratively with technology teams, this role will drive operations and automation to accelerate product delivery, and ensure consistent and stable services. They will ensure that the technologies employed across environments are operated to provide a resilient, secure, and highly available platform for our products and services to run on, and that the overall strategy for platform delivery is defined, approved, and implemented aligned with Wave’s business goals.

The successful candidate will oversee the Platform Engineering teams (four teams including DevOps, Backend, Frontend and Mobile platform) and be responsible for managing the associated infrastructure and tooling costs. The ideal candidate thrives in a product and customer led organization.

  • Team Leadership and Development: Mentor and grow a team of engineers and managers, fostering a collaborative, empathetic, and high-performing work environment. Focus on building a healthy team culture that aligns with the needs of users.
  • Ownership of Core Engineering Functions: Own observability, CI/CD, core infrastructure abstractions, and shared tooling.
  • Platform Engineering Excellence: Optimize and simplify platform tooling and enable ease of use of services (APIs) for developers. Define and continuously improve core metrics for platform engineering. 
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering leaders to prioritize feature development and engineering investments. Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure platform engineering initiatives are aligned with broader business goals.
  • Vision and Strategy: Develop and drive the long-term strategic vision for platform engineering, ensuring the team is well-positioned to meet future challenges and opportunities.
  • Innovation: Stay current on engineering best practices and trends. Lead the team in continuously refining strategies, processes, and tools to improve efficiency, reliability, and innovation within platform engineering.

You Thrive Here By Possessing the Following:

  • 5+ years of experience managing multiple engineering teams in a Cloud infrastructure environment (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
  • 10+ years of experience in software development with distributed production systems at scale 
  • Expertise building DevOps tooling and processes, with knowledge of site reliability, observability and product engineering
  • Expertise with back-end software engineering, e.g., REST APIs, microservices, data processing, SQL and NoSQL database technologies
  • Ability to facilitate technical decision-making, even outside your domain expertise
  • Experience with modern software engineering processes such as Agile
  • Nice to have: Experience implementing regulatory frameworks such as SOC, PCI, HIPAA
  • Nice to have: Experience managing offshore teams
  • Nice to have: Competency with Python
  • Ideal candidate has experience working with SaaS and/or FinTech organizations
