Software Engineer III

Position Summary...

Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales. Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities. Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans; using the Open Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in executing business processes and practices.

About Team:

We are a Data Science & ML Engineering team under the Enterprise Business Services organisation focussing on Finance domain. Our team is building products for Finance business from scratch, dealing with challenges from gathering user data, developing machine learning models to understand business processes better and making them more holistically data driven and intelligent.

Automated Forecasting, Anomaly Detection, NLP, Gen AI, Optimisation are only some of the areas we are actively working on. We leverage machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), LLMs and big data technologies to get the scale and precision required for solving these problems. We are also working on some cutting edge deep learning and Gen AI solutions to solve some of the business critical problems.

What you'll do:

• Play a key role to solve complex problems, pivotal to Walmart’s business and drive actionable insights from petabytes of data
• Develop high performance and scalable solutions that extract, transform, and load big data.
• Design, build, test and deploy cutting edge solutions at scale, impacting millions of customers worldwide drive value from data at Walmart Scale
• Perform root cause analysis on data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Build and optimize ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets involving petabyte and terabyte of data.
• Interact with Walmart engineering teams across geographies to leverage expertise and contribute to the tech community.
• Work with customer centric mindset to deliver high quality business driven analytic solution
• Partner with senior team members to assess customer needs and define business questions
• Drive innovation in approach, method, practices, process, outcome, delivery, or any component of end-to-end problem solving
• Closely interact with Data Engineers from within Walmart to identify right open source tools to deliver product features by performing research, POC/Pilot.
• Engage with Product Management and Business to support and build data solutions and develop expertise w.r.t data thereby being known as the true data analyst.

What you'll bring:

• Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree with 4+ years of experience in Computer Science or related field.
• Expertise in Big Data Ecosystem with hands-on and design experience in Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Scala
• Expertise in SQL and no-SQL relational database concepts
• Advanced knowledge of Java/Scala/Python is a must
• Hands-on experience in one of cloud computing platforms (e.g., GCP, Azure)
• Design experience in MPP architecture and knowledge of MPP engine (Spark, Impala etc)
• Data Modelling and ML concepts understanding and implementation experience
• Experience in Machine Learning concepts and understanding of docker, MLOps tools such as MLFlow/Neptune
• Experience in building scalable/highly available distributed systems in production
• Prior experience defining CI/CD best practices (Git, Maven, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Chef)
• Advanced knowledge of Software Engineering best practices with experience on implementing CI/CD, Log aggregation/Monitoring/alerting for production system.
• Exposure in working with micro Services/REST - Django/Flask/FastAPI, REST-API via networking protocols such as HTTP, GRCP
• Excellent with communications and stakeholder engagement
