Position: Senior Manager, Software Engineering

Duties: Build and operate highly scalable backend software services that can serve millions of requests per day to enable the advertising platform on Walmart.com and its subsidiaries. Drive engineering efforts in the end-to-end software development lifecycle starting with architecting, identifying, and fixing the bottlenecks and gaps, developing robust and reusable code, fine-tuning the software services, executing integration testing and deployments in production environments, and managing the performance, scalability, and availability of the deployed instances to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Provide efficient Disaster Recovery and Failover mechanisms. Design and develop low latency REST APIs using Spring Boot framework and Play framework in Java with Azure SQL Server and Cassandra as storage systems to enable Ad Campaigns management by brand advertisers and API partners in a self-serve fashion. Create, schedule, and maintain high throughput data pipelines using Apache Airflow, Google BigQuery, Apache Hive, and Python to enable on demand reports for advertisers, enable real-time query of events, and enable ad hoc analysis of aggregated data for engineers and analysts using Druid and ElasticSearch. Leverage open-source distributed systems like Apache Storm and Apache Kafka to build high performance and scalable software solutions to improve the latencies of the Ad platform services. Develop monitoring and alerting dashboards for services and data pipelines in Splunk. Utilize public cloud tools and resources to scale storage and computations in Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure. Improve performance optimization and cost reduction. Drive engineering teams to roll out new features and products, from rapid prototypes to large-scale applications using a variety of languages and technology stacks that are containerized using Docker and deployed in the Kubernetes Ecosystem and in public clouds like Google GCP and Microsoft Azure. Participate in 24/7 on call rotations and troubleshoot production issues across cross-functional teams. Supervise eight (8) employees (1 Software Engineer II, 3 Software Engineer(s) III, and 4 Senior Software Engineer(s)).

Minimum education and experience required: Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 5 years of experience in software engineering or related area; OR Master’s degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 3 years of experience in software engineering or related area.

Skills required: Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale infrastructure platforms and network services. Experience using CI/CD tools to automate the building, testing, and deployment of applications. Experience designing and utilizing SQL databases or NoSQL databases. Experience using open-source distributed framework (Apache Traffic Server) and streaming-processing platform (Apache Kafka) to build high performance software. Experience using public cloud tools and resources (Azure, AWS) to scale storage and computations. Experience with object-oriented programming (Java and C++), data structures, and algorithms. Experience with big data (Apache Hive and Spark), machine learning, and data analysis. Experience with software engineering processes including roadmap planning, tech design, implementation, code reviews, deployment, and post-production support. Experience with system testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery. Experience with software engineering tools: Jira, Github, IDEs, Postman, Docker, and Splunk. Employer will accept any amount of experience with the required skills.

Salary Range: $174,518/year to $286,000/year.  Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.   Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location) and Stock equity incentives.
