Role Summary
The Senior Manager, Automation Engineering leads the development, evaluation, and scaling of emerging computer vision and automation capabilities across Walmart’s Perishable Distribution Centers, driving innovation, proof-of-concept validation, and next-generation solutions that enhance operational intelligence, reliability, and performance. Focus areas include WITRON systems, conveyors, pallet handling equipment, and AS/RS technologies. Working with engineering, operations, and product teams, this role delivers automation solutions that improve reliability, reduce downtime, and increase throughput across Walmart’s automated supply chain.

About the Team
The Perishable Automation Capabilities & Engineered Solutions team is shaping the future of automation across Walmart’s perishable supply chain. By blending automation, controls, machine vision, and data-driven insights, we design and scale solutions that improve reliability, boost throughput, and reduce manual effort in highly automated distribution centers. Working alongside operations, maintenance, technology, and industry partners, we turn innovative ideas into practical capabilities that keep the network moving smarter, faster, and more efficiently.
What You'll Do
  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot industrial controls logic supporting sensors, machine vision systems, and automated fault-correction mechanisms.
  • Integrate, commission, and optimize industrial devices including cameras, photoeyes, encoders, actuators, and related automation hardware.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, controls, and system-integration issues to improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, reliability, and engineering teams to identify root causes, reduce downtime, and implement automation-driven process improvements.
  • Create and maintain controls documentation, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and commissioning packages.
What You'll Bring
  • Master’s or Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial automation, controls systems, PLC programming, and troubleshooting; Beckhoff/EtherCAT experience preferred, with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, or similar platforms also valued.
  • Experience integrating industrial sensors, machine vision, encoders, servo systems, pneumatic actuators, and related technologies in automated manufacturing or material handling environments.
  • Knowledge of electrical schematics, industrial wiring practices, NEC, NFPA 79, and CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Experience supporting automated material handling, warehouse automation, robotics, or manufacturing systems; familiarity with WITRON, Dematic, Swisslog, Honeywell Intelligrated, Vanderlande, KNAPP, TGW, or similar platforms strongly preferred.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
