SENIOR, DATA SCIENTIST

Position Summary...

Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans; using the Open Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in executing business processes and practices.

Our Market Intelligence team (MINT) is building best in class cutting edge solution powered by innovation in LLMs and computer vision models leveraging state of the art architectures and methodologies with ample opportunity for innovation and experiments.

We in MINT are building a state-of-the-art SaaS platform encompassing the best of engineering and data science practices

MINT team in Walmart seeks to empower functional leaders in merchandising/marketplace, and product managers, developers, data scientists and data analysts through data-led services that they can leverage for customers and sellers.

Our strategy is to win by enhancing business outcomes in two ways:

1) Distribution of high-quality knowledge and

2) Automated decision-making. 

We seek to derive useful retail insights by: Building predictive modelling triggers, which optimize relevant utility or risk functions. Establishing an ecosystem which supports rapid iterative experiments enabling us to validate and productise hypothesis quickly.

These capabilities will help drive customer satisfaction through catalogue growth, easy discoverability of items at low cost, and through pricing automation to make Walmart the retailer of choice.  

What you will do:

As a Senior Data Scientists for Walmart Global Tech, you’ll have the opportunity to

• Apply and/or develop ML solutions to develop efficient and scalable models at Walmart scale.

• Play a key role to solve complex problems, pivotal to Walmart’s business and drive actionable insights from terabytes of data.

• Leverage data science tools and techniques, keeping abreast with the latest in the community to solve problems for Walmart.

• Collaborate with counterparts in engineering and science to find impactful solutions to business problems.

• Define and/or own the model goodness metrics and track the business impact over time.

• Develop PoC, present lucidly to the business and evolve the solutions.

• Research, learn/disseminate & adapt new technologies to solve problems & improve upon existing solutions.

• Manage the continuous improvement of data science and machine learning by following industry best practices and staying up to date with and extending the state-of-the-art in Deep Learning research.

• Integrate data science solutions into current business processes.

• Contribute in terms of white papers and approach papers in top tier ML/AI conferences such as NIPS, ICML, AAAI and COLT

• Participate and speak at various external forums such as research conferences and technical summits.

• Promote and support company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.

What you will bring:

• Master’s degree with > 3 years of experience / bachelor's degree with > 4 years of experience. Educational qualifications should be from STEM. Experience should be relevant to the role.

• Experience in analysing complex problems and translating them to data science solutions with due attention to computational efficiency and scale.

• Sound knowledge of ML concepts and its application and ability to formulate solutions, baseline it and improve upon them with ML algorithms.  Expertise in  NLP and Computer Vision models. Worked with models like BERT, ViT and LLMs. Worked on fine-tuning LLMs and Transformer based models for business solutions. Knowledge in statistical methodologies to be able to measure metrics of large dataset and leveraging statistical based sample methods.

• Experience working with big data - identifying trends, patterns, and outliers in large volumes of data.

• Worked with at least one mainstream machine learning framework such as Tensor Flow and PyTorch

• Working Experience with SQL and relational databases

• Experience with big data platforms – Hadoop (Hive, Pig, Map Reduce, HQL) / Spark / H20 is good to have

• Domain Knowledge: Retail eCommerce is good to have

• Experience with debugging skills, RCA and stakeholder management.

• Software Engineering / Data Engineering Fundamentals
