What you'll do...

Position: Senior Data Scientist

Job Location: 680 W. California Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94086

Duties: Stay up to date on the latest machine learning and deep learning algorithms that power personalization on Walmart's website and in stores. Stay up to date with ML-related techniques like statistics, probability, and optimization methods which enable machines to make data-driven decisions at scale to personalize site content according to customer preferences. Utilize big data technologies such as Hive and Map-Reduce framework. Build algorithms to be able to handle massive amounts of data generated on the web and make data-driven inferences at scale. Work with the latest data science and software engineering technologies such as but not limited to Python, Hive, Map-Reduce framework, and Bash scripting, and Machine Learning packages such as Scikit-Learn and Numpy. Design, implement, and launch large-scale machine learning/deep learning systems for personalizing various touchpoints across the website using libraries such as TensorFlow. Work with other team members in personalization data engineering, modeling, and web services to deliver key projects. Work with agile scrum teams within Personalization group and adhere to best practices for software development such as coding styles, code reviews from peers, continuous build with Jenkins, and integrated deployment with OneOps. Design different components in Personalization backend systems, from data collection to enabling machines to make data-driven decisions at scale. Build highly scalable and relevant solutions to drive key business projects. Research and innovate new methods to attain business objectives. Develop new machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to achieve business goals. Clearly articulate work and documents and track and present accomplished tasks through tools such as Jira, Github, and Confluence. Analyze customer and member data to build state-of-the-art personalized member acquisition and retention models.

Minimum education and experience required: Master’s degree or equivalent in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering (any), or related field and 1 year of experience in an analytics related field; OR Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering (any), or related field and 3 years of experience in an analytics related field.

Skills required: Experience coding in object-oriented languages and building production pipelines using Python and Java. Experience processing big data using Hive, Hadoop, and Spark. Experience with data visualization with Tableau and Looker and modern plotting frameworks including ggplot2, matplotlib, and seaborn. Experience with data and statistical analysis using R, Python, and SQL. Experience utilizing public cloud-based tools on Google Cloud Platform. Experience with natural language processing on text data by building word embeddings and topic modeling using Latent Dirichlet allocation. Experience with fundamental Machine Learning algorithms including classification, regression, and clustering. Experience developing end-to-end ML model deployment workflows using MLlib, Keras, and TensorFlow. Experience analyzing time-series data and developing demand forecasting models using Prophet. Demonstrated knowledge of deep learning algorithm and network architecture including Bayesian neural network, convolutional neural network, and recurrent neural networks. Experience with statistical and probabilistic testing including t-test and chi-squared test for A/B testing and measuring the impact of models on business metrics. Experience building machine learning models and deep learning models using Numpy, Pandas, and Scikit-learn. Experience using JIRA and Github. Employer will accept any amount of graduate coursework, graduate research experience or professional experience with the required skills.

Salary Range: $138,911/year to $234,000/year. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.   Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location) and Stock equity incentives.
