Walden Robotics is hiring a DevOps Member of Technical Staff — a full-time, based in Cambridge, MA role ($157k–$210k). Apply directly on Walden Robotics's careers page below.
Member of Technical Staff: DevOps
Location: Cambridge, MA
Department: Robot Software
Position Summary:
You will build and run the infrastructure that gets our software from a developer's laptop onto robots in the field—and keeps it running. Spanning build systems, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and robot deployment tooling, you'll make shipping software fast, repeatable, and safe for a fast-moving robotics team. This role has a strong robot-deployment emphasis: alongside traditional cloud and CI work, you'll own pieces of the pipeline that package, version, and roll out software to physical robots, and the tooling that lets the team do it with confidence.
Core Responsibilities:
- CI/CD & Build Systems: Build and maintain continuous integration and build pipelines that keep a large, fast-moving codebase testable and releasable.
- Robot Deployment: Develop and improve the tooling that packages, versions, and deploys software to robots in the field, with an emphasis on repeatability and safe rollouts.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Provision, operate, and improve cloud infrastructure supporting build, deployment, data, and backend services.
- Containerization & Environments: Build and maintain Docker-based environments that keep development, testing, and deployment consistent.
- Observability & Reliability: Add monitoring, logging, and alerting across infrastructure and deployment pipelines so problems are caught early.
- Automation: Automate the manual, error-prone steps in build, test, and release workflows to make the whole team faster.
- Collaboration: Work with robot software, fleet, and AI engineers to understand their deployment needs and build infrastructure that serves them.
Required Qualifications:
- DevOps Experience: Solid hands-on experience with CI/CD, build systems, and infrastructure automation in a production environment.
- Cloud Fluency: Working experience with a major cloud provider (AWS preferred), including compute, storage, and networking basics.
- Containerization: Practical experience with Docker and container-based workflows.
- Scripting & Automation: Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, or similar) and comfort automating complex workflows.
- CI Tooling: Experience with a CI system (GitHub Actions or similar) and building reliable pipelines.
- Linux Proficiency: Comfort operating, debugging, and automating on Linux.
- Ownership & Reliability Mindset: Ability to own infrastructure end-to-end and care about the reliability of what you ship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience deploying software to physical devices, edge hardware, or robots (OTA updates, fleet rollout, etc.).
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tooling.
- Exposure to build systems such as Bazel at scale.
- Experience with monitoring/observability stacks and telemetry pipelines.
- Interest in robotics and the particular challenges of shipping software to machines in the real world.
