Role Purpose :
The Software Engineering Lead will be responsible for delivering significant value by developing robust & scalable code, defining standards, tools & methodologies, supporting the Agile Software Development Lifecycle & influencing strategic architecture and implementation decisions across process, platforms, tools and teams.
The successful candidate will always ensure the cost-efficiency of our software, stay up to date with the latest developments in the field as well as align to the best practice of Vodafone Software Engineering and Architectural Guilds.
The role will work closely with Digital Engineering Leads, Digital Engineering Management, Digital Product Management, Group Big Data, Solution Architects, Local Market Teams and Scrum Teams; gathering information and proposing, building and testing, best of breed Software Engineering solutions. The role will provide strategic guidance/input to the Head of Digital & OSS as well as other verticals.
Strong analytical, functional, technical and communication skills are essential for this role.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership
• Design and implement Digital applications in line with industry best practices (Cloud Native, Serverless, Micro Services, Containers etc).
• Own and strategically steer the development/test way of working by automating all parts of the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Ensure Digital applications are covered by end-to-end test coverage by design.
• Own the responsibility for the delivery of enterprise-wide, highly scalable, highly available, fault tolerant, secure and reliable applications.
• Assess and recommend the best of breed technology solutions to address business need.
Core competencies, knowledge and experience [max 5]:
• Rich knowledge of cloud native and containerized deployments (AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker Swarm etc)
• Deep hands-on experience of multiple programming languages and their respective frameworks as well as databases; a deep understanding of when to apply relevant languages and tools where needed. Minimum experience in Java, Python, NodeJS required as well as at least 2 columnar SQL based databases and 2 NOSQL databases.
• Master level experience assessing broad ranges of hardware and software solutions and products to satisfy development team goals.
• 5+ years’ experience designing and implementing Software Development Lifecycle processes.
• Strong experience of testing throughout all stages of the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence senior stakeholders
Must have technical / professional qualifications:
• 5+ years of Senior Technical Leadership experience in Software Development.
• 7+ years Developing and Delivering/Deploying Enterprise Grade Software.
• Hands on experience with large scale cloud-based deployments (AWS, GCP, Azure etc).
• Practical experience of end-to-end solution design.
• Historical record of leveraging opensource components wherever possible (Apache, Squid, Consul, Kafka, MQT, Hazelcast, Redis, MongoDB, Cassandra etc).
• Experience developing Big Data Software Solutions.
• Practical experience of ETL of Telecommunication data sources.
• Master's degree or equivalent in a computer science or a scientific/technical discipline.
