Role Profile:
The Software Development Manager will be responsible for leading a team of over 20 software, cloud and operations engineers, distributed across multiple locations. The role demands hands-on experience in designing, building, and operating software solutions in a complex multi-vendor environment. These solutions could cover many elements needed within the product operating model including BSS, orchestration and OSS capability and as such knowledge of these types of systems as well as Telco driven standards and APIs (MEF and TMF) is useful as well a background in public cloud environments, and Agile methodologies. The successful candidate will be accountable for managing both capital investment and ongoing operational costs to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in delivering cutting-edge telecommunications software solutions. With the introduction of AI tools and dev models we also need to embrace new ways of working to ensure that we remain quick and competitive in the market.

To lead and drive the transformation of our SW solutions to drive a greater CX, lower cost to serve our customers and provide innovative Capability to differentiate Vodafone in the connectivity marketplace.
What you bring?
Team Leadership & Management:
- Lead, inspire and manage a team of 20+ software and cloud engineers across multiple locations.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team culture by providing mentorship, guidance, and constructive performance feedback.
- Develop and implement strategies for team growth, including recruitment, onboarding, and retention of top talent.
- Develop team members' skills and capabilities to enhance productivity and drive professional growth.
Software Design & Development:
- Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle, ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable, and efficient software solutions.
- Lead the design, build, deployment and operations of software applications interfacing with the architecture teams
- Drive the adoption of modern software development practices, including microservices architecture, cloud native approach, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Ensure seamless integration of management of the solutions within public cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to meet scalability and performance requirements.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact on the company's software development strategies.
API Management:
- Drive the creation and management of APIs and service models to facilitate seamless integration and interoperability within internal and 3rd party network services including MPLS, ethernet, SDN and 3rd party SDWAN/LAN solutions .
- Manage integration into Vodafones API marketplaces as well as external service management platforms, e.g. servicenow.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards, especially MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) and TMF (TeleManagement Forum) APIs, where appropriate.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive API documentation and support resources for internal and external consumers.
Agile Project Management:
- Implement and refine Agile methodologies to ensure efficient and effective software development processes.
- Manage project timelines, deliverables, and resources to meet business objectives while maintaining high quality.
- Facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to ensure smooth project execution and continuous improvement.
- Engage with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on project goals, milestones, and deliverables.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, developing contingency plans as necessary.
Operational Excellence:
- Take accountability for the operational health and performance of software solutions, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Oversee the monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of software applications to ensure continuous operation.
- Implement robust DevOps practices to streamline development, testing, and deployment processes.
- Optimize investment and operational costs through strategic planning and resource management to deliver cost-effective solutions.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for software development and operations, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Stakeholder Management:
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, including product managers, architects, and other technical leads, to align software development efforts with business goals.
- Communicate project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders, providing timely updates and proposing solutions to challenges.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, partners, and customers to ensure successful delivery of software solutions.
- Represent the software development team in cross-functional meetings and strategic planning sessions.
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead initiatives to enhance software development processes, tools, and technologies.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and adoption of industry best practices.
- Encourage knowledge sharing and cross-training within the team to build a versatile and resilient workforce.
- Implement regular code reviews, architecture reviews, and post-mortem analyses to identify areas for improvement and share lessons learned.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging technologies, evaluating their potential to enhance the team's capabilities and productivity

- Ability to balance technical leadership with business acumen, understanding the impact of technical decisions on business outcomes.
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Additional certifications in project management (e.g., PMP, Prince2) or Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum Master, SAFe) are highly desirable.
Experience:
- Proven experience (7+ years) in software development, with at least 3 years in a managerial role
- Demonstrable experience in leading small teams and scaling them up to manage larger, distributed teams.
- Experience with public cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience in API design, development, and management.
- Solid experience working in Agile environments and driving Agile transformations.
- Knowledge of MEF and TMF APIs, with a strong understanding of their application in telecommunications networks is valuable but not essential.
