Engineering Lead Simulation Infrastructure

Department: Development

Employment Type: Permanent employee

Schedule: Full-time

Seniority: Experienced

Location: Espoo, Tampere

Visual Components is a software company with a global footprint. We are here to help teams who are building tomorrow’s manufacturing find the fastest way from the concept to reality. With our inclusive and easy-to-use 3D simulation software companies can test their ideas in a virtual environment and get proof of concept before making investment decisions.

We build our software using C++, C#, .NET, Azure Cloud and other Microsoft technologies, creating a robust and scalable 3D simulation platform. While our current focus has been on desktop applications, we are now embarking on a transformative journey to bring our platform to the cloud.

Visual Components software is a robust and intricate system that allows customers to design production lines, simulate and analyze production flow, perform virtual commissioning projects, and program industrial robots. Our interfaces are visual and user-friendly, making the software simple, fun, and easy to use, yet powerful and complex under the hood.

Our development teams use modern approaches to make the software reliable, efficient, and scalable. We work together in a collaborative environment where everybody can grow and make a real impact on the future of manufacturing.

Today, Visual Components software is used by over 2400 pioneers worldwide, and the tool scales from small local manufacturers to global automotive corporations.

Our Headquarters is in Espoo, Finland and we have branches in Indiana, US, and Munich, Germany. Our team of 24 nationalities and global partner network make Visual Components a truly international company.

We are looking for an Engineering Lead for our Simulation Infrastructure Team, focused on developing Motion Services and Physics. This role ensures that our capabilities in these areas are robust, efficient, and scalable, empowering our customers to design and optimize manufacturing systems with confidence.

You will collaborate closely with product owners, UX designers, and other engineering leads to deliver features comprising (Robot) Motion Controller, Mobile Robotics, Conveyor Path Systems and Rigid Body Physics Simulation. The team operates at the heart of our platform, driving innovation and providing cutting-edge technology in the domain.

Our team size is typically 5–8 people. Your tasks will include recruiting new team members to this team. We expect you to be able to come to the office 3 days a week to ensure the best possible start and build up the team.

As an Engineering Lead, you will create an environment where people and products flourish. You will keep the work flowing, help the team reach decisions, and ensure clarity and trust in how we work together.

    • Performance: Simulation performance is a critical consideration and should be addressed at every stage of the process.
    • Integration: Visual Components can be integrated to external systems to enable different simulation needs, e.g. to automate behaviors and embed logic directly to simulation models.
    • Quality assurance: maintain credibility of simulation results through rigorous testing.
  • Collaborate with other teams on cross-functional dependencies (e.g., rendering and visualization, robot off-line programming, production simulation).
  • Facilitate team decision-making and maintain momentum toward shared goals.
  • Co-create and evolve Agile practices and metrics for smooth workflow.
  • Provide technical and quality oversight, including design reviews and testing strategies.
  • Champion continuous improvement in process, tooling, and product quality.
  • Lead and engage in every phase from design to implementation. In this position, leadership is the primary focus, while contributions to coding implementation play a more minor role.

  • Experience leading software development teams.

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, working with legacy code bases, refactoring, and API design.

  •  Familiarity with test automation strategies.

  • Strong C++ is a mandatory skill; .NET (C#) skills need to be on a good level.

  • Excellent communication, coaching, and people skills.

  •  Ability to navigate stakeholder needs and align multiple teams toward a common goal.

  • Growth mindset and enthusiasm for empowering others.

  • Competitive salary

  • The opportunity to further develop and expand your skills and make an impact on the digitalization of manufacturing

  • Flexible working hours and remote work

  • An employer who supports various life situations

  • Safe and stable workplace

  • Skilled co-workers and a supporting supervisor
