Job Description

The VAS Architecture & Platform organization is leading Visa's transformation in developing Value Added Services across our business solution verticals & commercial platforms. A key responsibility of the VAS Innovations Team is focused on delivering innovations leveraging the big-3 public cloud vendors such as GCP, AWS and Azure. These initiatives include creating service and tools, delivering proof of concepts and enabling the migration of existing workloads to public cloud. In addition, delivering innovations that leverage the latest cutting-edge technologies such as GenAI and AI/ML are core to the team’s DNA.

The VAS Innovations team is seeking a dynamic full-stack Lead Software Engineer. You will play the critical role in executing on the technical vision for the VAS group within Visa Inc. You will be both a contributor and collaborator who will be depended on by teams of engineers to offer technical guidance, designs and engineering best practices leveraging your expertise. In this role, you will have the opportunity to define and execute on the overall VAS strategy in the areas such as system design, software deployment, security, observability, infrastructure and SRE practices.

VAS develops and operates multiple product and platform applications including Acceptance, Risk and ID, Acceptance, and Issuing Solutions among others which power many consumer payment experiences of our clients. You will have the opportunity to learn these products and your work will have direct impact to the experiences of the end consumers.

The successful candidate to fill this role will have a strong engineering background and a good understanding of engineering best practices, architecture principles and design patterns, whilst possessing effective communication and collaboration skills. 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

The Work itself: 

• Design code and systems that touch 40% of the world population while influencing Visa’s internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability 
• Collaborate multi-functionally to create design artifacts and develop best-in-class software solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings 
• Actively contribute to product quality improvements, valuable service technology, and new business flows in diverse agile squads

Essential Functions:

• Consults with product owners to gather and refine requirements across product teams, adding and takes into account existing tools and solutions across the organization.
• Drives advanced architect solutions that are robust and scalable, considering integrations with other solutions across the internal technical ecosystem.
• Provides extensive domain expertise on the development of user documentation of solutions and fosters standard processes in user documentation as needed.
• Plays a major hands-on role in the development and delivery of new features across products from end-to-end.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.
•5+ years of experience as a Lead software Engineer
•Hands-on experience in microservices, container, orchestration & deployments
•Public cloud technologies (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)
•GenAI experience, Copilot, ChatGPT, LLMs, RAG model and Prompt experience
•Strong communication and collaboration skills


Preferred
12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
•5+ years as a lead software engineer providing guidance to build either business or technology capabilities in collaboration with architecture and other engineering teams
•Experience with migrations from On-Prem systems to Public, Hybrid and Multi-Cloud
•GenAI experience, Copilot, ChatGPT, LLMs, RAG model and Prompt experience
•Security Expertise, security best practices, compliance & data protection Kubernetes & Container skills, working both on-prem and in public cloud
•Microservices, container and orchestration, deployment architecture, SRE practices, observability tools, and database systems
•Ideal candidates will have direct experience in creating solutions that are resilient, scalable, and observable in multi data center settings
•Experience in SRE and DevOps organization a plus
•Possess excellent problem solving, analytical, and communication skills.
