The Opportunity: 

We are looking for versatile, curious, and energetic full stack Senior Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale. As a Visa Software Engineer within the VAS Digital Marketing Enablement team, you will be an integral part of a multi-functional development team responsible for inventing, designing, building, testing, and managing applications globally used by Visa cardholders.
You will use your Java skills and experience with various technologies to design, develop, test, and deploy high-quality code that meets stringent business, security, and resiliency requirements. You will collaborate with other teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure the smooth delivery and operation of the application. You will have the opportunity to learn and apply new technologies and frameworks, such as AI and generative AI, to enhance the functionality and performance of the application.

The Work itself: 

• Design, code, unit test, document, and implement new applications as well as enhance existing programs.
• Collaborate with development and QA teams on individual and team deliverables.
• Develop code that complies with design specifications and meets security and Java/J2EE best practices. Coding must adhere to all standards for security, be easily maintainable, and have high system performance.
• Create and maintain documentation, including design changes in Wiki and other forms of documentation.
• Identify opportunities for future enhancements and refinements to standards, best practices, and development methodologies.
• Participate in design and code review sessions to ensure the quality of work delivered by self and teammates is in accordance with development standards.
• Interact with business units to define requirements and design appropriate solutions.
• Passionate about delivering zero-defect code that meets or exceeds the proposed defect SLA and has a high sense of accountability for the quality and timeliness of deliverables.
• Highly driven, resourceful, and results-oriented.  

Essential Functions:

• Demonstrate relevant technical working knowledge to understand requirements.
• Identify and contribute to the development and solution strategies that improve the design and functionality of interface features.
• Apply standard processes on the use of programming languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Angular / React) to write code that fulfills website modification requests and technical requirements.
• Collaborate with others to support the piloting of new technology capabilities and features that enhance the user website experience across e-commerce products.
• Analyze bugs for simple issues and apply debugging tools to verify assumptions.
• Work independently and effectively communicate with team members.

**We do not expect that any single candidate would fulfill all of these characteristics. For instance, we have exciting team members who are really focused on building scalable systems but didn’t work with payments technology or web applications before joining Visa.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs. 

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
• 5 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or with an Advanced Degree.
• 4-6 years of relevant experience in Java/J2EE enterprise applications, including Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Hibernate, Web services, and strong Core Java and J2EE skills.

• Experience with UI frameworks and frontend development using Angular, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS is essential.

• Hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker is required.
• Demonstrated ability to build object-oriented designs.
• Strong SQL skills required, with experience in relational databases like MySQL or MsSQL and NoSQL databases.
• Proficiency in GIT/Stash, Maven, Jenkins, etc.
• Experience and knowledge in secure coding practices.
• AI and generative AI skills are highly desirable.
• Fundamental knowledge of UNIX and shell scripting.
• Experience with Kafka and Big Data (Hadoop) is a plus.
• Must be capable of working in all phases of the application system development life cycle.
• Experience with Agile methodologies, including sprints, and experience developing as part of an Agile/Scrum team using tools like Jira.
