This position is for a Lead Data Engineer with solid platform engineering experience who will focus on creating new capabilities for AI as a Service while maturing our platforms and development processes including tools, automation and developer experience. In this position, you are first a passionate and talented developer who can work in a dynamic environment.  Your strong technical skills, leadership, problem-solving abilities, coding, testing and debugging skills is just a start.  You must be willing to go beyond the routine, challenge yourself and be prepared to do a bit of everything.

You will be an integral part of the engineering team, often investigating new requirements, designing, debating, refactoring, implementing, and documenting continuously, in a continuous effort to provide better solutions to your consumers. This position will be based in Bangalore, India.

Essential Functions

• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable codebases for our AI/ML platforms and applications.
• Lead the Platform Engineering teams to ensure high reliability and availability of the services.
• Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and other stakeholders for robust, scalable, and optimized AI/ML solutions.
• Establish, advocate, and enforce best practices in security, infrastructure management, and service reliability..
• Drive incident management process and support a blameless post-mortems culture.
• Drive technical standards and best practices, and continuously improve AI Platform’s engineered capabilities.
• Help to coordinate the technical implementation among different teams, platform instances and deployments and ensure system performance, security, scalability, and availability.
• Coaching and mentoring junior team members with design, code and implementation

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office on designated days of a week with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
• 10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
• 14 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree.
• Strong development experience in one or more of Golang, Java, Scala, Python, Rust and C/C++
• Experience in big data and other database systems such as MySQL, Redis, Elastic etc.
• Sound knowledge of Real Time Event Driven systems based on technologies like Flink, Kafka, Spark Streaming or similar.
• Well versed with development tools such as Git, Maven, SBT, Jenkins, Sonarqube, Checkmarx etc. and experience in driving overall development / R&D experience of the engineering teams
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment models and best practices such as IaC
• Strong experience in bare-metal, Kubernetes/docker, public Cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure) based deployments
• Strong experience in platform and application observability design and implementation
• Proven experience in managing large-scale systems, including aspects like security, reliability, availability and self healing
• Demonstrated ability to lead and navigate through ambiguity, educate and influence stakeholders
• Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills both written and verbal
• Experience in payments domain and prior experience in large scale ML/AI Model Engineering is a definite plus.
