Information about the position
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join the Transactional Experience (TX) domain within Vinted Product Engineering. Our domain’s mission is to set the right promise so members initiate the transactions and meet it by enabling them to succeed in buying and selling. From an engineering perspective, we aim to do so by maintaining strong data consistency guarantees, ensuring resilient payment & shipping orchestration and maintaining best-in-class performance. In a nutshell, we want to ensure that every transaction that can succeed, succeeds.
In this position, you’ll
Be accountable for:
- People in the team (ensuring that we have great people working in true harmony)
- Processes and procedures in a team (working in the right ways on the right things)
- Delivery management (get stuff done)
- Technologies in a team (including making some direct code contributions)
In practice, it means:
- Work in a backend-centric team (±6 engineers that you would be leading) to extract key services related to order management from our monolithic core
- Treat Reusable Capabilities as a Product. Apply the same rigour, processes, and mindset to their development and maintenance as you do for customer-facing features
- Ensure the team’s delivery according to the quarterly roadmap
- Focus on the professional and personal growth of your team and yourself, including conducting performance and compensation reviews
- Work on the team’s maturity: a team of people who trust each other, are not afraid of conflict, are committed and accountable, care about results, and do a bunch of other great things
Your future fellow engineering managers in TX are defining what they do as follows:
- “Taking care of the product team “machine” and making sure it goes smoothly: making sure it’s well maintained, deciding when we need new parts or upgrades, paving the road, removing obstacles on the way, etc.” - Marius
- “Inspiring people to become better versions of themselves, sometimes letting them fall and helping them get up or finding a way to get up themselves” - Gediminas
About you
- Like getting things done and done well
- Have advanced experience with Go, Ruby, Java, C# or similar.
- Have experience leading a software engineering team and delivering outcomes that you are proud of
- Know how to improve team efficiency
- Like working with people and helping them
- Know a thing or two about stakeholder management
- “Embracing uncertainty” is a phrase that does not scare you
- You can easily articulate the following terms: service-oriented architecture, monolithic vs modular architecture, tight vs loose coupling, technical debt, etc. You don’t have to know them in-depth, but a basic understanding will help you perform better by a mile
