Position summary:
The Senior Utilities Engineer is responsible for maintaining reliable, compliant, and efficient operation of site utilities and electrical systems supporting GMP manufacturing operations. The role supports maintenance, troubleshooting, projects, compliance activities & energy optimization.
Job Specific technical/Functional/Professional Competencies:
- Prepare, update, and maintain operating, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures for utilities systems to ensure systems consistently run within approved operating limits.
- Ensure stable and compliant operation of all site utility systems, including electrical distribution, firefighting, vacuum, steam, purified water, BMS, EMS, and other GMP-related utilities.
- Apply maintenance and reliability practices that improve equipment performance, minimize breakdowns, and maintain utilities availability.
- Provide technical support for utilities modifications, upgrades, instrumentation, automation systems, PLCs, SCADA/BMS platforms, and related control systems.
- Lead troubleshooting activities for utilities and electrical systems using technical analysis and root cause investigations to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
- Ensure utilities systems are operated and maintained in line with GMP requirements, EHS standards, data integrity expectations, and Viatris procedures.
- Support internal and external audits by maintaining utilities systems and engineering documentation in a compliant and inspection-ready condition.
- Identify operational, safety, compliance, and continuity risks and take timely actions to control or escalate them when needed.
- Oversee utilities maintenance activities and ensure preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities are completed effectively.
- Maintain proper control and availability of critical spare parts required for utilities and electrical systems operation.
- Follow up with contractors, suppliers, and service providers to ensure work quality, compliance, and timely execution.
- Support change controls, SOP revisions, deviations, CAPAs, commissioning activities, backup and restore activities, and lifecycle-related activities for utilities systems.
- Support capital projects and represent utilities operations during reviews, project execution, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Identify and recommend system upgrades and capital improvement opportunities required to maintain utilities reliability and compliance.
- Support initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption and improving utilities operating efficiency.
- Support building maintenance activities and site infrastructure improvement activities when required.
- Maintain close coordination with production, quality, EHS, validation, and other site functions to support smooth site operations.
- Manage utilities maintenance and operating expenses, including budget follow-up, forecasting, variance review, and risk assessment.
- Support organizational changes, cross-functional activities, and additional engineering assignments based on business needs.
- Follow up utilities performance indicators and engineering metrics related to system reliability, compliance, downtime reduction, energy utilization, and audit status.
Experience and Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in utilities and engineering functions within a GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
- Good knowledge of GMP requirements and pharmaceutical engineering practices.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
- Experience in managing contractors, service providers, and technical projects.
- Good communication and coordination skills with cross-functional teams.
